Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon – A Steam Hit!

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is an ambitious action RPG heavily inspired by The Elder Scrolls saga and with touches of Souls, developed and published by Questline/Awaken Realms, which was released to the market this past Friday, May 23rd, and is now available for PS5, Xbox Series and PC through Steam. This game has been in Early Access since March 30th, 2023, and since its official launch just three days ago, it has accumulated nearly 7000 positive reviews on Steam after hitting a peak of more than 24,000 players online! Not bad, right?

Tainted Grail is set in Arthurian Legends, and offers players a real challenge through a highly demanding combat system that turns every encounter with enemies into a fight to the death for survival. Between main and side quests, its gameplay exceeds 100 hours of content that unfolds through a complex and very elaborate story in which player choices have consequences, leading to all kinds of branches. Arthurian Legends and Dark Fantasy Like Never Before

The story of Tainted Grail takes place six centuries after the arrival of King Arthur and his knights in Avalon, fleeing a devastating plague known as the Red Death, which ravaged their homeland. Avalon, then inhabited by the Foredwellers, terrifying four-armed giants, and shrouded in a magical mist known as the Wyrdness, was conquered and colonized by the humans with the help of the menhirs, magical statues that dispelled the mist. However, nowadays those menhirs are losing their power, and the Wyrdness threatens to consume the world once again.

Players take on the role of a prisoner freed by a mysterious character whose intentions aren’t clear at first. Eventually, the protagonist discovers he has fragments of King Arthur’s soul, and receives the mission to gather the remaining parts to restore his spirit. As the story progresses, players face moral dilemmas and decisions that will determine the fate of Avalon. The game offers multiple endings, each one a result of the different choices players make throughout the narrative, and whose main themes are as deep as sacrifice, or power and legacy, among others.

Open World and Customization

Avalon presents us with a vast and detailed world, which is divided into three main regions: Horns of the South, Cuanacht Village and Forlorn Swords, all of which will also be ‘expanded’ as the plot progresses or as certain specific decisions are made. The branching narrative of Tainted Grail takes us through every corner of this world, on a journey full of all kinds of discoveries: hidden items, story secrets, unique enemies, dungeons, missions and fascinating NPCs. All sorts of situations and missions that allow players to explore freely at their own pace, building their own story in a world that truly feels open.

Tainted Grail offers “unlimited playstyles,” emphasizing that customization is a very strong point of the gameplay: in this title players can freely combine attributes, skills and equipment, making it possible for each build to be unique and different, and for each playthrough to feel just as particular and personal. Stats, perks, crafting… Players can shape 100% of their preferred playstyle! Want to be a totally crazy alchemist-berserker who annihilates enemies with punches? Go for it! Are you more into a mystical blacksmith-mage who summons hordes of the undead? Sure, why not? Or do you prefer being a stealthy archer who stalks from the shadows? Well… In this game, those stealthy archer fans will find their place 😉
