Otherskin: Fresh 3rd Person Shooter For 2025

Otherskin, developed by Game Atelier and published by FDG Entertainment, is the new third-person sci-fi shooter set to launch in the third quarter of 2025, and you can already try a FREE DEMO by heading over to its Steam page, which of course you’ll find at the end of this article. Its innovative approach blends the fast-paced action you’d expect from a current game in the genre, with some really cool new gameplay mechanics.

In the shoes of Alex, our brave protagonist, we must explore the planet Vandermire to uncover its secrets. Beyond the usual gameplay we’d expect from a game of this type, we also get the unique ability to “assimilate” alien organic forms in order to absorb their physical traits and develop new strategies and attack types, something that will no doubt come in handy on many occasions! You can take a look at this mechanic in the video below, the Official Reveal Trailer, courtesy of IGN:

I became a witness, and what I saw consumes me.
On good days, the trees are glowing like a city at night.
But the beauty is deceiving.
It’s the last resistance of a world facing extermination.
The shadows are coming back.
A corruption haunting this planet…
I can’t leave, and I’m ready to stride to the edge of darkness.

Explore, Assimilate, Evolve, and if You Can, Survive!

Alex is number 13 of the volunteers Space Crusaders, all of them willing to give their lives in dangerous solo expeditions across the surface of planet Vandermire, ancestral home of the now-extinct Magna species. That place is believed to be the origin of a deadly and ravenous corruption that is dangerously spreading across the system and threatens to plague the entire known universe.

In this context, our girl is assigned to the mission “Exodus”, for which she’s given a unique high-tech AI suit capable of withstanding the corruption for at least a few hours, just long enough to gather the necessary information to make her imminent death worthwhile. But of course, things don’t go as planned in this story: the corruption reaches her ship minutes before the launch of her mission, and she barely makes it to the escape pods in time to eject to the surface.

Alex wakes up from the crash of her capsule in a hostile yet fascinating environment, with only a few hours on the clock and no mission support, beyond the AI integrated into her own suit, which becomes the key piece in her survival. This suit has the ability to assimilate alien organic lifeforms, to gain new movements, abilities, and incredible powers, which will often make the difference between life and death.

Otherskin brings us several super appealing elements that will definitely catch our attention, one way or another. Action, fast-paced combat, long-range weapons and amazing melee combos powered by our new abilities, exploration through different biomes as beautiful as they are dangerous, and a storyline that promises to hook us, as we gradually uncover the secrets of Vandermire and the extinct Magna, and reach the origin of the dangerous corruption that threatens all life as we know it.

The visuals, as we can see in the video that comes with this article, are simply flawless. Alex’s movements while exploring this dangerous world feel smooth and natural, instinctive, nothing too forced. Combat, which at first carries the classic traits of third-person shooters, soon evolves into something far more dynamic, that smoothly integrates varied and powerful melee combos, quickly switching from one mode to another. The ability of Alex’s suit to assimilate other lifeforms can be experienced early in the game, taking on, just to mention one, the wings of a kind of “wasp, which will be necessary both for fighting and for traversing many areas of the map.

So…

Otherskin definitely offers a more-than-attractive proposal to keep us hooked to the screen for hours. As we mentioned before, you can experience it for yourself by heading to its Steam page and downloading the free demo right now, and adding it to your Wishlist! And once you’ve done that, you can also come back here and tell us what you thought, don’t you think? You know gamer, we’ll be reading you! 🙂
