Destiny 2: The Final Shape – The Best DLC!

Just a couple of months ago, on June 4th, Destiny 2 released its latest DLC called “The Final Shape.” This narrative installment of the game is much more than just a simple DLC; it is an expansion that Destiny 2 truly deserves.

As we know, many players have invested thousands of hours in this fantasy and science fiction shooter over the years. With The Final Shape, expectations were very high, and there was tremendous pressure to deliver a plot that did justice to all the characters. For this reason, Bungie took a little longer to release this DLC, as the previous installment, called Lightfall, was somewhat disappointing to players, as expressed by the players themselves. The company strove to improve and exceed expectations to ensure that The Final Shape met the demands and desires of its dedicated player community.

The story of Destiny 2 is extremely extensive and filled with numerous expansions that have shaped what we know today. The Final Shape begins with our Guardian, the fan-favorite Crow, and the remaining Vanguard leaders, Zavala and Ikora Rey, heading to the Pale Heart of the Traveler through the gate cut by the Witness. What awaits them is a beautiful and twisted world, composed of abstract memories and places long forgotten.

The world changes radically as you progress, presenting a wonderful visual variety while maintaining the open battlefields characteristic of Bungie. This type of design is the same that made the original Halo: Combat Evolved what it is today. Your pursuit of the Witness puts you back in contact with the legendary Hunter Cayde-6, whose resurrection is explained in a somewhat clumsy way, but whose presence is welcome on levels that are hard to explain for a Destiny fan.

In addition to the main plot, The Final Shape introduces new gameplay mechanics and challenges, keeping players engaged and offering a fresh and exciting experience. Bungie has managed to create an expansion that not only adds significant content but also revitalizes the Destiny universe, ensuring that both veteran and new players enjoy it to the fullest. The choice to focus on the main Vanguard leaders, the three mentors who have been with us from the start, as well as on Crow, the Guardian who in his previous life was Uldren Sov, Cayde‘s assassin, allows Bungie to tell a much more personal story.

The campaign itself is excellent, especially depending on the difficulty level you choose with your team. Many fights take place in huge open areas, which really makes a difference. This allows you to attack from a considerable distance under cover and, if necessary, make a frantic dash back to a forest to hide a bit and regain your health.

In this new DLC of Destiny 2, the care and dedication put into it are demonstrated, with details like bridges made of clinging hands and walls formed by contorted faces in agony. Fans of Destiny will recognize many of the locations, as they have been taken from previous iterations of the game. Areas from long-forgotten missions, the original tower, discarded Crucible maps, and levels from planets that no longer exist return, providing a nostalgic experience for long-time players.

At the beginning of the campaign, you unlock a new class called Prismatic. This is not a completely new super class, but a way to mix and match skills from the five existing super classes to create your own customized class. This means that skills that were previously specific to each class can now be shared. For example, your Titan could have a Solar Super, Strand grenades, and the ability to dodge instead of using a barricade.

Why should you play Destiny 2: The Final Shape?

Whether you’ve been with Destiny from the start, have taken long breaks between expansions, or are new to it all, The Final Shape campaign is excellent. In fact, for long-time fans, it is one of the best expansions Bungie has ever produced. This leaves the question of whether the upcoming episodes, which will replace the seasons as a new way of telling stories, will be on par with this grand expansion.

Destiny 2 is a one-way journey. A journey of immersion into a very extensive and complex universe, excellently narrated, which makes us empathize with its characters from the first moment. If you’ve known it for years, you already know this, but if not, keep in mind that the game features excellent dubbing in many languages, which greatly enhances the immersion we’ve just talked about.

What do you say? Will you give it a chance? Come on, be a good gamer and swing by the comments to let us know what you think, okay? We’ll be reading! 🙂
