Waste The Fallen: A Creepy Extraction FPS

Among all the big news coming out of Gamescom 2026, one announcement surprised us and particularly caught our attention. We’re talking about Waste The Fallen, a new first-person extraction shooter with a cosmic horror setting, and at least judging by its Official Reveal Trailer, it simply looks awesome. Without getting into the specifics just yet, we see a reality fused with some kind of demonic dimension in which we’ll use all kinds of weapons, even organic ones, to survive. Would you like to see it? Here’s the video:

A Devastated and Desperate World

Faced with the depletion of resources on the surface, humanity began digging deeper and deeper. Underground, they came across something older than Earth itself, a presence that should never have been awakened, but by the time they realized it, it was already too late. In a very short time, the earth opened up and cities were submerged in a fog that drove their inhabitants insane, while they also had to face whatever emerged from the depths, something that transformed the world and all living beings. Reality, as it was once known, was never the same again.

While the world became overrun by the Fallen, beings that emerged from the depths, the few humans who survived were relegated to small settlements on the outskirts of this gigantic abyss. A large part of the world’s population that succumbed ended up becoming these terrifying beings: the dead, the missing, and even soldiers still carrying their military gear, all of them retaining vague similarities to their human forms, but completely corrupted and deformed because of whatever emerged from the Deep.

What Would You Be Willing to Sacrifice to Survive?

In this new reality, we will take on the role of the Deviants, a small group of people who have been able to “assimilate”, or withstand without dying, the energy or power that emerged from the Deep, and who have voluntarily decided to sacrifice a part of their body and replace it with something that is not entirely human, something that will help them overcome the dangers and threats of this chaotic new world. Their “Bio-Arm”.

At this point, the supernatural element will become an active and functional part of the gameplay, with this symbiotic arm becoming a key element not only during each mission, but also in the character progression mechanics, and even in the customization of certain weapons, which can eventually become, as you may have seen in the video, a highly effective fusion of mechanical and organic elements. And thanks to these tools, we’ll be able to venture into the “Deep”, the name given to the regions consumed by corruption, and complete our missions before time runs out, or worse, before we simply lose our sanity.

Something About Its Gameplay

Okay, so… we’ve already established that this will be a free to play, so now it’s time to talk about its mechanics. Its gameplay loop will share similarities with other extraction shooters, but I still believe it has the necessary characteristics to shine on its own. After preparing our gear, we’ll enter the corrupted areas, the “Deep”, to explore, gather resources and all kinds of loot, facing the Fallen and even other Deviants like us who are looking for the same loot. After finding an exit, we’ll head to our Hideout, where, in addition to upgrading our character and equipment, we’ll also be able to improve and modify the base itself.

The Bio-Arm will surely be the most attractive gameplay mechanic, allowing us to improve it using resources obtained during expeditions and thus unlock new abilities. And we’ll also have a “Sanity” system: yes, we’ll have to keep an eye on our mental stability, as certain places, beings, and specific attacks could drastically reduce it, and even cause other serious status effects, such as visual distortions or intoxication, among others.

One of the things RoyalCrow has emphasized the most is that Waste The Fallen will have one important difference compared to other well-known extraction shooters, such as Tarkov or The Division, which is that the penalties for dying will be much less severe. In fact, there will be a deliberately large safebox that will allow us to collect more resources, and they have promised that they will implement fast and accessible crafting so that one bad match doesn’t destroy hours of progress, something we’ll always be grateful for!

Byungnam Choi, producer of Waste The Fallen at RoyalCrow, has explained that the goal was to create an extraction shooter that felt more welcoming and less punishing for players. He also pointed out that they wanted to draw on the tradition of Korean horror and bring it into a Lovecraftian FPS where fear gradually builds, and exploration and curiosity are rewarded. These statements support other small details mentioned earlier, details that will make the gameplay a little more comfortable than that of typical extraction shooters, and will better reward our efforts and the risks we take.

Who Is RoyalCrow?

Even though its Steam page is still empty, that doesn’t mean the people at RoyalCrow are beginners. They previously released another game that, after a difficult year, they themselves decided to remove from the store, the failed CROWZ, a tactical military shooter focused on large-scale squad-based combat. If you dig around a little, you’ll surely find the publisher’s reasons, which make perfect sense, but let’s be honest, who hasn’t had at least one stumble early on?

On the other hand, RoyalCrow was founded in 2018 by Seung-hoon Baek, along with other developers he had previously worked with. Baek had previously worked at GameHi, where he was behind the development of Sudden Attack and Dekaron, and several of the devs from those teams joined him in forming this new studio. And let’s make one thing clear here, Sudden Attack was one of the most important online FPS games in South Korea, and as if that weren’t enough, the rest of the team is made up of developers who came from S2 Online and Hounds, which suggests that we should keep an eye on any current or future work from this promising studio.

And as if all of that weren’t enough, our beloved Tencent is currently RoyalCrow’s largest shareholder. In 2021, the Chinese giant purchased more than a quarter of a million shares in Baek’s studio for almost 18 million won, which gave it 41.4% of the company and officially made it its largest shareholder. And no, Tencent will not publish Waste The Fallen: at Gamescom 2026, Yoon Haneul, Project Manager at RoyalCrow, stated that the studio itself will be the game’s official publisher.

So…

Okay, let’s recap. Waste The Fallen, a cosmic horror extraction FPS with an F2P business model, will be released soon. Although its official release date has not yet been announced, in just 2 days, on September 4, 2026, it will enter Closed Alpha, specifically allowing players from North America who have requested access to experience it firsthand. In the meantime, we can always add it to our Wishlists, and you’ll find the links down below as usual. And once you’ve done your homework, it would be great if you dropped by the comments and told us your opinion about this super interesting project from RoyalCrow. You know gamer, we’ll be reading you! 😉
