Well Dweller: Dark Fantasy Metroidvania TBA!
Well Dweller is a fairy tale turned into a game, developed by Kyle Thompson and set to be published by Top Hat Studios Inc. Its metroidvania mechanics and dark fantasy aesthetic give it the dynamism and appeal needed to get on the radar of any fan of great adventures without much effort. Glimmer, the protagonist, is a little bird armed with a matchstick, whose difficult mission is to set the evil queen on fire to save his family. Does that sound like an easy task? Keep reading…
This wonderful metroidvania reminds us of magical adventures like those of Ori, but with more present hack ‘n slash mechanics, and a narrative that evokes titles like Dust: An Elysian Tail from 2013, with plenty of dialogue and a careful translation into several languages, which, besides reaching more people around the world, is always welcome by this huge community, right? If you want a better idea of how Well Dweller looks, we invite you to check out the Official Reveal Trailer, straight from Top Hat Studios’ YouTube channel:
“Glimmer in the Dark”
“Deep within the forest, at the bottom of a well, lives the only creature brave enough to kill the queen…” This story invites us to play as Glimmer, a little bird armed only with a matchstick, who must set the evil queen on fire to save his family. This is how we begin an exciting journey exploring an incredible living fairy tale, dark and beautiful at the same time, discovering and befriending countless endearing characters that inhabit the depths of the kingdom. Endless secrets, puzzles, and mysteries to solve; this corrupted world has everything to keep us hooked for many hours.

Among the decayed ruins we find a charming array of characters doing everything they can to get by. From Toni, a small mouse fleeing from the queen’s claws, to Caco, the mysterious looter with whom we explore abandoned castles, here each character has their own story and depth. In this mysterious world we can even reconnect with our own siblings, who had been kidnapped one night by a deranged hunter! That matchstick we carry seems to become more and more important, not only to accomplish our final goal, but also to return the light to the world, and help us along the way.
Well Dweller brings together the best of several excellent representatives of the genre, adding its own personal touch: here the dynamism is constant, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming or complex. Glimmer’s movements feel fluid, and the interaction with that incredible tool, the “multi-use matchstick,” looks very well implemented. Through amulets we will collect throughout the world, we will be able to improve our abilities and unlock new ones, or even combine them in different ways to customize our playstyle.

So…
