Frostrail: A Co-op Survival FPS Set For 2026

Frostrail is the new post-apocalyptic cooperative survival FPS developed by FakeFish (Barotrauma2023) and published by Shiro Games Unlimited (Wartales2023), whose release has been initially announced for 2026. Its action and gameplay revolve around a train that functions as a mobile base as it moves through frozen terrains and devastated landscapes besieged by terrifying creatures, in which life itself has long ceased to be present, giving way to the cold and relentless death of the Void.

In this new experience, the train will have all the classic features present in survival games, and even a few more, like adding extra cars to make better use of the space. As for on-foot combat, it might remind us a bit of one of the titles from the Metro saga, obviously with differences… So we don’t go on too much with this part, we invite you to watch the first trailer for yourself, brought to you by Shiro Games:

Survival in Constant Motion

Once a mighty empire, the land now lies barren, consumed by a merciless cold, twisted by the Emperor’s pact with the Void, and its ruins are haunted by relentless specters and supernatural horrors. Aboard a steam-powered armored train, the Penitent Gardeners purge the land of the cursed, granting mercy to the lost and annihilating the wicked, seeking salvation in the heart of the frozen desolation.

Frostrail is a cooperative first-person action-survival game in which our main objective will be to take care of, supply, and upgrade our train, which will be our main shelter, mobile base, and means of transport from one map to another. We will have to loot everything we can from abandoned buildings, sunk in ancient frozen ruin, while we protect ourselves and fight off the savage specters that will not give us any rest.

As we could expect in a survival game of this type, besides sustaining ourselves and our base, we will have to craft weapons, gear, and various types of upgrades, even being able to build and add extra cars to our train, which will benefit us in several ways, as we will make our base stronger and more spacious. The gameplay will be based on a cycle of exploration and preparation between one stop and the next: we will have to refine materials, craft equipment, and plan the next expedition, keeping in mind that some parts of the journey will require getting off the train to manually switch tracks or remove obstacles, adding a special importance to team functionality.

Beyond the tracks lies a world frozen by death, with its ruins buried in ice and time. Explore the wasteland in search of vital supplies, recover the remains of abandoned settlements, and venture into the wreckage lost to frost, while you descend into treacherous depths where the greatest rewards come at a deadly price.

So…

Sure, okay, obviously it has some Metro vibes, although I won’t write a whole section about that. It’s worth highlighting that Frostrail looks like something fresh and different, with that mix of features we’ve mentioned in other occasions, and the dynamism of our mobile base, I personally think it looks really interesting. Frostrail is expected to launch in 2026, although it is scheduled to enter Early Access beforehand. We’ll have to add it to our Steam Wishlist to stay updated, and in the meantime, how about stopping by the comments and leaving us your thoughts on this project? You know gamer, we’ll be reading you! 🙂
