Samson: Gritty Noir Action Coming In April

Surely we all remember Just Cause, the open world franchise where chaos was the currency for leveling up, and almost every structure, monument, and vehicle could be destroyed. After serving as creative director at Avalanche Studios, Christofer Sundberg, creator of the iconic saga, founded his own studio in 2020, Liquid Swords, also made up of experienced veterans from major studios such as Rockstar Games, CD Projekt Red, Ubisoft, and Square Enix. That said, and having established that Liquid Swords is far from being considered an indie studio, on April 8 they will release their first game, Samson: A Tyndalston Story.

The proposal behind Samson aims to be different from its concept to the player experience. It is an open world action adventure where every decision matters, and every day is different. Christofer Sundberg has described the project as follows: “We built Samson to hit fast and leave a mark. It’s a raw and physical story, with systems that pressure you at every step. This is the beginning of what Liquid Swords represents, and the team has created something with real teeth.” Want to know why Samson: A Tyndalston Story has caught our attention so strongly? Noir Action and Relentless Debt

As the name of the game suggests, this story is set in Tyndalston, one of the harshest cities imaginable. In it, we step into the role of Samson McCray, a man trapped by a debt that literally grows every hour. His only way out is to act fast: violence, desperation, and rushed decisions are the only tools at his disposal, while the relentless city responds to every move. This game is designed for us to become one with the city, to the point where we can feel it pressing down on our shoulders, constantly demanding what we owe.

Each day hits us with a new daily quota, and if we fail to pay it, the interest will skyrocket the next day, making the situation worse in the worst ways. Melee combat is raw, and the turns are tight and deadly. Here, cars are not decoration, but blunt instruments of destruction and death. Ramming, drifting, or even outmaneuvering our pursuers, all without even a couple of minutes to think about our next move. Samson created this mess and must fix it himself, and for that, he must push his potential to the limit.

We must increase our strength both in melee combat and aggressive driving, unlocking more than 25 skills that can turn us into a fighter worthy of Tyndalston. On foot, our weapons are our fists, the environment itself, and improvised tools for facing our enemies. On the other hand, when driving, our vehicles are weapons, and chases turn into collisions, traps, and close range destruction. The different districts of the city represent hostile zones and hidden corners, places filled with stories, some of them tied to the tragedy of Samson’s family.

Far beyond the description of the gameplay and the game itself, what we can see is a frantic mix of Driver, GTA, and perhaps Shenmue, but with far less technique in combat and far more brutality. Tyndalston remembers and reacts to every one of our steps, and its law enforcement makes us feel the pressure based on the chaos we cause in the city. Fists and metal. Rust and asphalt. The city is corrupt and decaying, and now it strives to reclaim its children. The city calls you. The city does not forget.

So…

Samson: A Tyndalston Story will be released on April 8, and will be available for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. As for what we will have in our hands, I could almost say we can rest easy. We are talking about members of the teams that brought to life franchises such as Just Cause, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077, GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Division and Far Cry, among many others. It is up to you whether to trust. You already know, the links are there in the usual place, but since we have to wait, how about heading down to the comments and telling us what you think about this impressive proposal from Liquid Swords? You know gamer, we’ll be reading you! 🙂
