Crathos Deep: The Everlasting Cosmic Horror

Studios merge, others get bought, and others shut down. We are living through times of significant changes in the video game industry, so we choose to take a breather and remember what truly drives our passion, video games themselves. And speaking of them, what better than talking about an upcoming release, one of those that promise to captivate us for hours as we dive into a deep and gripping story? Well, that is exactly what the first game from Hitbox Games promises, it is Crathos Deep, an immersive narrative cosmic horror adventure whose release will be announced soon.

Behind this title is a small team of developers, only four members, who have decided to take the leap into development with complete creative freedom. The result of this choice is not only the birth of Hitbox Games, but also the conception of Crathos Deep, a project in which this small team shows its passion and commitment to video games, to players, and to good stories. Among the references and inspiration that shaped this adventure, the developers point to some iconic works in film, literature, and video games like Alien, Outer Wilds, Subnautica, Soma, and the work of H.P. Lovecraft.

Mystery beneath the frozen waters of the Arctic Ocean

In Crathos Deep we will play the role of a submarine pilot turned marine investigator, hired by a media outlet to investigate an underwater research institute after an anonymous report about a covered up incident that took place in the trench that gives this story its name. In it we will dive beneath the ice, into the dark waters of the Arctic Ocean, aboard our submarine, accompanied only by our tools and our expedition drone. In this science fiction and Lovecraftian horror adventure that strongly reminds us of Alien or Sphere, we will not only feel motivated by the curiosity to discover the truth behind the mysterious incident, but we will also begin to feel the oppression of something much larger and more ancient present throughout the entire place.

This title will invite us to uncover the hidden mysteries within the oppressive oceanic landscape of the Crathos Deep at our own pace, and in whatever order we want. Freedom will be total, and piloting our submarine will offer us a highly immersive experience, so much so that every time we encounter an obstacle we will feel the urgency to deal with it and solve it, putting our own life on the other side of the scale. Eventually, the great distances within the immense trench will no longer be a problem, and our drone will help us in all those spaces where our submarine cannot enter. H.P. Lovecraft believed that true horror arose from revelations, discovering that the universe was much more than we imagined. Crathos Deep will invite us to discover and cross those limits.
