The developers Aesir Interactive and NightingGames together with publisher Mindscape will soon launch their new adventure of exploration and discovery, set in the lands of 13th century Mongolia. It will put us in the shoes of a brave messenger rider: Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori. This adventure, sprinkled with small touches of survival, will have as its main mechanic the strong bond between us and our loyal horse, and the relationship we will maintain with various aspects of nature while we fulfill our mission of keeping communication alive in a land that blossoms in our wake.
Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori will continue the line already established by previous installments of the Windstorm saga, all of them adventures related to nature, and mainly to horses, and our relationship with them. Just like the previous titles, this one will be an adventure we could say relaxing, compared to most of the current titles on the market. The Legend of Khiimori will launch on November 4th on PC and consoles, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you can enjoy the Official Early Access Release Date Trailer right below these lines, courtesy of GameTrailers:
The Adventure of Riding Through 13th Century Mongolia
Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori aims to be an adventure of exploration and discovery that will put us in the role of a brave messenger rider who will travel across the landscapes of 13th century Mongolia mounted on her loyal horse. That adventure will not simply be about going from one place to another, although it will indeed be the way to discover the map and find new areas, to carry out our missions. Besides that, although it will be a let’s say “relaxing” journey, we will have to take care of other important aspects of living that nomadic life, like for example raising, caring for and keeping our loyal companion happy, or dealing with other animals as we encounter them.
Protecting ourselves from wild wolves, or hunting some prey to eat and keep ourselves healthy, will be some of our daily occupations. As we have said, you will notice some touches of survival, although they will be light and will not take away the appeal of the main adventure. In that context, we will have to gather some resources, and craft medicines, or upgrades for our winter clothing and the protection of our horse. And of course, if you happen to know some of the previous Windstorm titles, you already know beforehand that the true protagonists of this story will not really be us, but our horses, right?

In Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori the horses will be surprisingly realistic, both in appearance and in behavior, and this last part surely thanks to Alice Ruppert, horse consultant at Aesir Interactive, who noted: “Actually the constant neighing is not realistic behavior.” To capture the horses’ appearance accurately, the art team was sent to a stable to observe them in person, and they were also accompanied by a sound team, to faithfully capture how horses sound.
Besides the realistic representation of nature, Alice Ruppert and Adriano Nicolosi, Communications Director of Aesir Interactive, highlighted that their other objective was fundamental: to capture the culture and history of Mongolia. Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori will try by all means to be an authentic representation, although we already know that there are no perfect games when it comes to historical representation, this new installment of Windstorm seeks to be faithful and respectful with everything it represents.

Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori promises to keep us hooked for hours, whether exploring breathtaking landscapes, steep cliffs, snowy peaks, endless steppes and burning deserts, or dealing with the extreme climates we will be constantly exposed to. Living and surviving, in this game we will even be able to breed our own horses! It could not be any other way, right? 13th century Mongolia was the cradle of many of the best riders in history, and here we will experience it firsthand.
And behind all this, we will discover “The Legend of Khiimori”, the mythical “wind horse”, and the spirit of the land and the sky, while forging an unbreakable bond between horse and rider, which without a doubt will endure even beyond the end of the adventure.

So…
