PS Plus Essential: July 2025 Games

Diablo IV

Diablo IV is the fourth main installment in Blizzard’s successful action RPG series, released on June 5th, 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X|S, and PC. The story picks up in the world of Sanctuary fifty years after Diablo III, with the return of Lilith, daughter of Mephisto, who has been summoned by cultists to once again spread chaos and violence. The narrative embraces a darker, grittier tone and focuses on everyday people, contrasting with the more political or high fantasy approach of previous entries. The open world is no longer limited to linear dungeons, instead, it features vast regions full of dynamic events, procedurally generated dungeons, and PvP zones, all with no loading times between areas.

The gameplay brings back the classic loot system with a strong emphasis on visceral combat and intense sound design. Players can choose from six classes: Barbarian, Sorcerer, Druid, Rogue, Necromancer, and Spiritborn (the latter added in the “Vessel of Hatred” expansion, in October 2024). Each class offers a unique style: the Druid can shapeshift into a wolf or bear and use nature magic, the Necromancer summons the dead and wields dark magic, the Barbarian excels in close-range combat with dual weapons, the Sorcerer commands elements like fire, ice, and lightning, the Rogue blends stealth, melee, and ranged skills, and the new Spiritborn combines spiritual summons like jaguar, gorilla, eagle, or centipede with mobility and control. The game includes deep skill trees, a crafting system, cosmetic options (purely aesthetic microtransactions), and a live seasonal model with paid expansions.

The King Of Fighters XV

The King Of Fighters XV is the fifteenth main entry in SNK’s long-running fighting game series, released on February 17th, 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game uses Unreal Engine 4, which provided a notable visual improvement over KOF XIV, including more detailed facial animations, flashy cinematics for Climax moves, and vibrant stages that shine in HD resolution. Its combat system sticks to the classic 3-on-3 team format with energy bars and Max Mode, but adds new mechanics like EX Attacks, Destructive Hits, and a more accessible parry system, enhancing both combo flow and tactical defense.

The roster is wide, with 39 fighters, featuring both iconic characters like Kyo, Iori, Chizuru, or Ash Crimson, and new faces like Shun’ei, Isla, or Dolores. Critics have praised its strong and smooth netcode, ideal for online play, while the single-player content is more limited, with a traditional arcade story accompanied by basic cutscenes. In terms of innovation, KOF XV strikes a balance between tradition and freshness, it preserves the essence of the saga while modernizing it with mechanics that enrich the experience for veterans and remain accessible to newcomers. Additionally, its soundtrack brings back emblematic themes from the KOF universe, while the collection and menu presentation add a nostalgic touch with contemporary polish.

Jusant

Jusant is a climbing and puzzle adventure developed by Don’t Nod, released on October 31st, 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows, using Unreal Engine 5. You play as a lone traveler ascending a massive rocky tower that stretches beyond the clouds. The structure is divided into biomes with specific climbing mechanics: placing pitons, using ropes, and managing stamina are essential to progress. The story is revealed without dialogue, through the environment: an ancient civilization that once inhabited the tower was consumed by a drought called “jusant” (French for low tide), which led to the abandonment of the structure and the disappearance of its people, leaving behind remains of ships and anchors everywhere.

The gameplay is meditative yet challenging: placing and retrieving pitons, planning routes, and using the companion Ballast, a floating water creature resembling a whale, helps unlock clues and activate environmental elements. The experience is described as calm but immersive, with no dialogue, focused on vertical exploration and emotional connection, supported by an evocative soundtrack. Critics have praised its visual presentation and the design centered on climbing as a fresh perspective within the puzzle-platform genre, highlighting its contemplative tone, sense of achievement, and the near absence of frustration in its progression.

So…

Now then, remember that starting today, July 1st and until August 4th inclusive, you’ll be able to claim these three titles and keep them in your library forever, whether you’re a PS Plus subscriber or part of the Extra or Premium Tier, although you should keep in mind that the Extra Tier gives you access, in addition to Sony’s services and discounts, to the rotating game catalog and the Ubisoft+ Classics collection, and the Premium Tier, in turn, is the most complete, including classic game catalogs, game trials, and cloud streaming, on top of everything mentioned before. So we’ll say it again, what are you waiting for? Once you’ve done your homework, it would be awesome if you came back here and told us which of these titles are your favorites, or which have been the best additions to your library thanks to PS Plus. You know gamer, we’ll be reading you! 🙂
