Windblown, Motion Twin’s Newest Project

Motion Twin, the creators of Dead Cells, one of the most acclaimed and popular roguelikes in recent years, is currently working on a new project called Windblown. This promising new roguelike features an isometric perspective and is characterized by fast-paced gameplay filled with intense action and platforming.

Although it has been a few months since we last heard about this project, Motion Twin has just released a new video, offering over 15 minutes of pure gameplay. The video provides an in-depth look at what the first steps in the game will be like, giving us a good idea of how its progression system and various gameplay mechanics (with a special emphasis on the movement and traversal systems) will work, while also offering a closer look at the game’s vibrant graphics and colorful art direction.

What is Windblown?

Windblown is an action game developed by Motion Twin and published by Kepler Ghost for PC. The new game from the creators of Dead Cells is an action roguelike with an isometric perspective, playable either solo or cooperatively with up to three players. In the game, you explore floating islands filled with dangerous enemies, all within a very colorful world.

The action roguelike genre has become one of the most dynamic, with dozens of new entries released every month, largely due to games like Dead Cells, the 2D roguevania from the French studio Motion Twin. Dead Cells has been one of the most influential indie titles in recent years, thanks to its exceptional quality across the board, especially its excellent gameplay and fast-paced, in-depth combat system, which few titles in the genre have managed to rival.

Now comes the studio’s second game, Windblown, another action roguelike—this time with an isometric perspective—that takes us to The Ark, a floating village orbiting the gigantic and deadly Vortex. Players control Jumpers, facing off against numerous enemies as they explore a series of floating islands that form the procedurally generated dungeons of this adventure.

Just like Dead Cells, one of Windblown’s signature features is its frantic combat system. Players will battle the Vortex’s sentinels using swords and other melee weapons, as well as a few ranged attacks, all on floating islands that act as compact arenas. These arenas force constant, dynamic movement. The game can be played solo or cooperatively with up to three players, and it boasts a striking and colorful art style reminiscent of an animated series.

I think we’ve seen and learned enough to say that Windblown should be on our radar from now on, if it wasn’t already. This new proposal from Motion Twin promises to give us many hours of fun, don’t you agree? And now, how about checking out the comments and leaving us your opinion? You know, gamer, we’ll be reading! 🙂
