This is a reality, and perhaps the only fact we can consider official out of all this information: BioShock 4 has been in development for years, and it has even gone through numerous reboots since its first announcement. This year, 2K announced that Rod Fergusson, the “closer” who successfully concluded the development of BioShock Infinite (2013), would return to the saga to lead the project. Specifically in August 2025, Fergusson was appointed as the top executive in charge of the franchise, acting as Development Supervisor of the project that is currently in the hands of Cloud Chamber. This “Big Daddy“ of the saga has also been tasked with leading other related projects, such as the possibility of a franchise adaptation for Netflix.
Currently, information has been leaked that confirms old rumors, along with some new and interesting details. The development of BioShock 4 has been discussed on several occasions since 2018: despite Cloud Chamber not having shown official images so far, the project has captured the attention of both the community and the media more than once. Bloomberg even went as far as talking about a problematic development that could delay it beyond 2027, especially with the latest staff cuts. Even so, in a way it gives us hope to get news regarding this, even if we have to take it “with a grain of salt”, as we always do when the information is not official.
The New Setting: Antarctica
The well-known outlet MP1st has compiled material from BioShock 4 that reinforces the leaks we are talking about, and please keep in mind that everything you are about to read here is speculation and conjecture based on leaked, NOT official information, so we suggest caution regarding its level of credibility. As for the information itself, it speaks of an Antarctic city in the 1960s called Borealis, and it highlights some locations such as a casino, which fits with the theme of a society on the brink of collapse, and a location called Solaria, or Solaris, which is mentioned on several occasions. In addition, a certain type of characters is also hinted at, whether an enemy faction, citizens, or a shadow elite, called the Solarians.

This new information points toward that cold setting, and elements such as snow or storms would play an important role in the atmosphere of this title. As a final detail, but no less important, it is mentioned that we could see the drug ADAM again, the addictive substance born from genetic experimentation, which provided superhuman abilities and was an important factor in the narrative thread of the first two entries and their DLCs, and even appeared in Burial at Sea, the DLC of the third entry, BioShock Infinite, which, unlike the main game, was once again set in Rapture, like BioShock 1 and 2.
MP1st has also published an image of a statue that could represent the main antagonist of the story, and has speculated about a character used in provisional visual art that could correspond to the protagonist. Unfortunately, even though there was a lot of speculation about the project’s presence at The Game Awards 2025, the event concluded without any new official information regarding it.

So…
As we have said, and as we always say about leaked information, it should be taken “with a grain of salt”, since nothing is official. Even so, everything would seem to point toward the active development of this fourth entry, and Rod Fergusson’s presence at the head of the project could mean something positive in a process that has already seen several complicated moments. Lastly, and perhaps seeing it as a “consolation prize”, we will soon be able to play Judas, the new project from the master Ken Levine, Creative Director of BioShock and BioShock Infinite. And while we wait, how about stopping by the comments and telling us what you think about this new information regarding the long-awaited BioShock 4? You know gamer, we’ll be reading you! 😉
