Exodus: Spiritual Successor To Mass Effect?

The indie developer Archetype Entertainment is about to announce the release of its first game. Its name is Exodus, and its concept brings back memories of the best times of the iconic Mass Effect saga. In fact, the developers themselves have mentioned BioWare’s popular franchise as a strong and ever-present source of inspiration, and well, we don’t exactly need to be geniuses to notice some similarities just by watching the videos, right?

Right now, after the failure of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and the acquisition of EA Games by PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners, as much as we hate to admit it, the reality is that the future of the Mass Effect franchise, or simply “ME4,” is completely uncertain. And with that said, what could be better to keep our hopes alive than Archetype Entertainment’s proposal? Their first game, Exodus, aims to be a spiritual successor to Commander Shepard’s saga! Are you ready to become The Traveler?

In this story, we will play as Jun Aslan, and we will have to take the lead in the fight for humanity’s survival against an incredible future and evolved version of humankind: the Celestials, the greatest known threat in the universe so far, and their dangerous Metamorphs. This will lead to countless battles against incredible creatures and monstrous beings, challenging rival human dynasties and facing our own inner conflicts along the way. We will also have to make use of powerful Celestial Vestiges with human technology to expand our arsenal and use devastating abilities through a gauntlet that only we can wield.

These Vestiges will be ancient technological relics we will need to recover in order to save our world, since their use will involve different ethical dilemmas, adding a layer of moral conflict to the story. Along this journey, formidable allies will join us, changing the course of each battle through their strength, abilities, and unique synergies. Exodus aims to balance the cinematic and the tactical, offering encounters that mix planning, improvisation, and unmatched visual display.

In addition to our own character’s progression, enemies will also evolve gradually, since it won’t be the same facing hostile human factions as fighting Celestial robots or entities corrupted by a phenomenon known as The Decay. On the other hand, those side quests that are often seen as “filler” will here be essential for narrative development and for building connections with our companions, often being crucial to progress through the main story.

The free exploration of a galaxy full of wonders and mysteries will be simply fantastic, giving us an open world where we can truly feel the freedom to move as we please while discovering new secrets with every mile traveled. Exodus promises a role-playing experience filled with depth, variety, and a strong emphasis on player choice, and by now, we all know which beloved saga we’ve mentioned a couple of times in this article already that combined all those elements, right?

So…

Okay, let’s recap: Exodus by Archetype Entertainment doesn’t have an official release date yet, but we can expect news about that very soon. In the meantime, you can already visit its Steam page, which you can find right below, and add it to your Wishlist. And after you do that, make sure you come back here and tell us in the comments what you think of this impressive proposal!
