Valor Mortis: Dying and Rising for Napoleon!
Do you remember that meme about Robocop? It went something like “If you feel bad, remember that this guy died working, and they revived him so he could keep working!”… Well, when I saw the announcement of Valor Mortis at the Gamescom 2025 I couldn’t help but remember that XD… This is the latest proposal from One More Level, known for their popular Ghostrunner (2020) and Ghostrunner 2 (2023) among others. In this case, they have set out to transport us to an alternative version of 19th-century Europe.
Valor Mortis invites us to be protagonists from an anti-hero or dark avenger point of view, in the style of the Prototype saga, or even Carrion, despite the huge distance between those references. We will not exactly be the good guys in this story, although without a doubt we will fight for a cause we believe is just. We will use very dark powers, and even infect our enemies to turn them into grotesque and deadly mutations! Take a look at Valor Mortis’ Cinematic Reveal Trailer, from IGN on YouTube:
Fight, Die, Resurrect, Fight… and Repeat!
“You served Napoleon. You died for Napoleon. You have risen for Napoleon.”
This is how the description of Valor Mortis begins on its Steam page. In this story we will play as William, a soldier of the Grande Armée who resurrects in a Europe very different from the one in which he had given his life. We will find ourselves in an alternative version of the 19th century, in a scenario devastated by a never-ending war, after which a mysterious plague swept across the entire continent, corrupting bones and flesh of the living… and of the dead! And of course, that second group included our brave William.

When he rediscovers this new version of Europe, William will be forced to fight, although to his surprise he will find that each new death will be a new opportunity to grow stronger. In this first-person action and horror game we will have to master a combat system packed with parries, dashes and visceral finishers, as well as a wide variety of ranged and melee weapons. We will have to channel our power to enhance attacks and unlock supernatural abilities, both offensive and defensive.
Napoleon’s Eternal Guard will present us with a variety of enemies, spawns and bosses that will be a challenge to our skill and our capacity as strategists. This devastated new version of Europe will hide unimaginable and terrible secrets, and an absorbing story that will combine real historical events with supernatural elements of horror. And behind all of this, the truth about the origin of the plague will remain hidden, as well as the cause of our profane resurrection.

So…
According to One More Level, the official release of Valor Mortis will take place sometime in 2026, although you can already visit both its Steam page and its official website, and add it to your Wishlist. On top of that, you can request access to its Playtest that will start very soon. And, since we’ll have to wait, how about you drop by the comments and tell us what you thought about this proposal? I imagine you were expecting something not that different from the addictive Ghostrunner, right? Come on, we want to know your opinion. You know gamer, we’ll be reading you! 😉
