Assassin’s Creed Live Action Series on Netflix!
Netflix has recently confirmed officially that the live action series of Assassinās Creed, based on the successful video game saga by Ubisoft, is finally in the production phase, after years of development and multiple creative changes. This announcement, made public by Variety, marks the starting point of what promises to be one of the most ambitious bets by the popular streaming giant in its foray into the universe of video game adaptations.
This adaptation will be led by Roberto Patino, who you might know from Westworld or DMZ, and David Wiener, also known for Halo and Brave New World. Patino and Wiener will be the creators, showrunners, and executive producers of the series, and have shown great enthusiasm: āEvery day we work on this series we discover new possibilitiesā, they said, expressing that for both of them, Assassinās Creed is not only a historical action thriller, but a human story about identity, faith, revenge, connection, and loss.

The plot of this new production will stay true to what have always been the pillars of the saga: the secret war between the Assassins and the Templars, two orders engaged in a millennia-long struggle for control of humanity. Using machines capable of accessing the genetic memories of their ancestors, just like weāve seen in the Ubisoft saga, the protagonists will relive key episodes in human history to find powerful artifacts known as āPieces of Eden.ā According to the official synopsis, the series will show how these characters are present in crucial historical events while they fight for the fate of free will.
āPatino and Wienerās vision will bring new life to this iconic franchise. It will be an epic journey that honors the legacy of Assassinās Creed and will captivate both veteran fans and those approaching the world of the Brotherhood for the first timeā
Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series at Netflix

As everyone will remember, back in 2016 the franchise already ventured into cinema, launching an adaptation starring Michael Fassbender, also known for being the android David in the Prometheus and Covenant arc of the Alien franchise, or for playing the younger version of Magneto in X-Men: First Class from 2011, and in the three films that continued that timeline. Either way, and even though that production of questionable success was never declared canonical, this will be the first major serialized live action production of the iconic saga.
This project is part of the strategic agreement between Ubisoft and Netflix, which has also led to animated series like Rabbids Invasion and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, not to mention the upcoming Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. Margaret Boykin, from the Ubisoft Film & Television division, stated that āthis adaptation speaks directly to the heart of what makes Assassinās Creed special, while opening the door to new audiencesā.

Soā¦
Obviously, expectations are through the roof. Netflix is looking to replicate the success of adaptations like The Witcher or One Piece, which, as you know, have been very niche and were winning bets, at least from our point of view as gamers, otakus, etc. The thing is, if done right, this move could definitely mark a before and after for the genre. This beautiful community that weāre all part of has demanded, asked, and begged for an adaptation worthy of this franchise we all love, and, if they give us what weāve asked for, weāll mark the success ourselves!
And now, with the cards on the table, assassination targets assigned, your first mission is to head to the comments and drop your opinion on this special assignment. You know brother, āNothing is true, everything is permittedā… š
