The Expanse: Osiris Reborn: Coming Soon!

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is the upcoming game in The Expanse franchise. Developed by Owlcat Games, and set in the universe that gives the saga its name, Osiris Reborn proposes a third-person action RPG worthy of the popular IP. Here we’ll take on the role of a mercenary who finds themselves in the wrong place at the worst possible time, and just as The Expanse has taught us to expect, we’ll face a highly immersive journey in which our decisions will shape our story from beginning to end.

Within the sci-fi genre, The Expanse saga is known for belonging to the so-called “hard science fiction” type, or in other words, a fictional story where ships, weapons, and life in general follow realistic physics in believable, coherently technological settings. In addition to the “realism” factor, if we want to call it that, its standout strengths include a rich, multi-layered narrative, and a strong focus on decision-making, whether in events, storyline, or relationships with other characters. Osiris Reborn aims to continue along that same path, maybe with a slightly different but very effective approach, leaning on the main characteristics that have shaped The Expanse universe.

Wrong Place, Worse Time

In The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, we’ll play as a Pinkwater Security mercenary whose brief break on the asteroid Eros suddenly spirals out of control. Trapped in a deadly lockdown and caught in a conspiracy that will unfold across the entire solar system, we’ll have to escape, adapt, and survive, and we’ll take command of the most advanced ship in the system. We’ll create and customize our captain, who can be an Earther, Martian, or Belter, and lead a crew of highly skilled specialists as we face rising threats, political pressure, and a relentless enemy who will stop at nothing to see us dead.

Our crewmates will be much more than just useful assets for a mission. We’re talking about people with their own scars and loyalties, and their own backgrounds and motivations. Some will seek redemption, while others will try everything to hide their truths. With them, we’ll forge alliances or rivalries, depending on our choices and leadership, on our ship and home, where before long, we’ll discover that trust isn’t given without reason, it has to be earned.

The combat style may not be entirely new, since at least personally I recall having seen similar scenes in other genre icons, like Mass Effect 2, to name just one. However, the graphics are looking polished and vibrant, nicely finished and effective. If we add the “hard sci-fi” factor to that, we’ll end up with dynamic battles where our skills will truly be put to the test, fighting in squads to whom we’ll issue commands at just the right moments, and where strategy will matter far more than just going full “Rambo” mode.

Fully worthy of the universe it belongs to, in Osiris Reborn we’ll be part of a vast and living world, with iconic locations we’ll be able to visit, such as Ganymede, Ceres, Mars, or the Moon. We’ll explore ruined habitats and politically charged strongholds filled with tension and unease, where we’ll be able to talk to the locals and uncover their hidden secrets. In the end, we’ll influence the future of this universe through our skills and actions, making the narrative branch out more and more.

So…

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will be available on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, and promises to live up to the other titles in the popular The Expanse saga. This third-person action RPG still doesn’t have a set release date or window, but we can expect news on that very soon! In the meantime, you can visit its Steam page or your console’s game store and add it to your Wishlist without delay. And since we’ll have to wait, you can also scroll down and drop us your opinion about this enticing new proposal. You know gamer, we’ll be reading you! 🙂
