A Survival Horror Set in 1960s Japan

This new installment in the saga, Silent Hill f, is set in 1960s Japan, in the quiet town of Ebisugaoka, place of origin of Hinako Shimizu, its young protagonist. This town is suddenly enveloped in a thick fog that turns it into a nightmare setting. Little by little, as the mist becomes denser, silence takes over the streets. Hinako will have to navigate this urban labyrinth while finding the courage to face terrifying creatures, and solve at the same time complex puzzles, to stay alive.

The script for this game is in the talented hands of Ryūkishi07, an acclaimed writer specializing in visual novels that explore psychological horror, mystery, and the supernatural. Meanwhile, the soundtrack includes compositions by the legendary Akira Yamaoka, a regular musician of the saga. UE5 has been the graphics engine chosen to bring this story to life, filled with inevitable decisions, and strong, intense emotions, such as doubt, and regret.

Motoi Okamoto, producer of the Silent Hill series, expressed during the presentation that the central idea of Silent Hill f is “finding beauty in horror.” He also added, “While Silent Hill f retains the fundamental psychological horror elements of the series, we set ourselves the challenge of setting it in Japan and exploring those themes.”

A notable characteristic of Japanese horror is the idea that terror can be found within beauty. When something becomes too beautiful and perfect, it can be profoundly unsettling. In this way, players will experience this world through the eyes of a young girl facing a decision as beautiful as it is terrifying.

Ryūkishi07 assured that, although this will be a completely independent story from the rest of the saga, fans will be able to find many hidden references to the entire franchise. “This game represents both a return to Silent Hill’s origins, as well as a series of new challenges. One example is the question of whether we can continue making Silent Hill work without setting it in the city that gives it its name. From a creator’s perspective, I can confidently say that what we have made is a Silent Hill game. However, we want to hear what lifelong fans think after playing it, and whether they agree.”

And speaking of agreement, I think we can all agree that the look of this new trailer, even if it’s just a cinematic for now, looks simply stunning, right? Now that the project is more tangible in every sense, we will have to stay attentive to any new updates that may arise, and mainly to any possible announcement related to dates. And in the meantime, since we have to wait, we invite you to stop by the comments and leave your opinion about this video, or your expectations for this upcoming entry. You know, gamer, we’ll be reading you! 🙂
