Unofficial: Dino Crisis Could Be Back Soon!
Capcom has been reviving its iconic old franchises for some time now, as they officially announced last December. Also in December, we saw the announcements of the new installments of Onimusha and Okami at The Game Awards 2024, so if we take into account the popularity of our beloved Dino Crisis and the weight our dear gaming community carries when it raises its voice, we could almost say that we should expect positive news about this saga sooner or later.

At the end of January this year, Capcom released the two most requested titles of this classic franchise on PC through GOG: Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2. While the first was always labeled as a “Resident Evil with dinosaurs” and earned a prestigious place among the survival horror games of the ‘90s, its sequel leaned more towards the third-person shooter genre, with pre-rendered backgrounds in the style of the early Resident Evil games or other successful genre hybrids like Parasite Eve or Parasite Eve 2 by Squaresoft.
With this move being a clear sign of activity in the franchise, whatever kind it may be, we now learn that Capcom registered the Dino Crisis trademark in Japan on March 4. This could indicate that the Japanese giant is preparing the return of this action-horror saga with dinosaurs. Not long ago, we talked here about Dino Crisis Rebirth, the impressive and modest project undertaken solo by Stefano Cagnani, and at that time, we made it clear that while it didn’t violate any laws, at least as far as we knew, it wasn’t exactly a project endorsed by Capcom.
Either way, no matter how beautiful Dino Crisis Rebirth may look, and remember, you can try it for free through its official page, we always knew that it was neither a sequel nor a remake nor an official remaster, with everything that implies. Now, after so many years, perhaps the time has come to celebrate, or at least for those of us who never lost hope, and I include myself in that group.
Now, let’s go back for a moment to the last two “revived” Capcom sagas. Both Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Okami 2 are sequels, which, if we observe carefully, could be an indication that if Dino Crisis returns, it might be in that form. However, we should not rule out the possibility of a remake, since if we recall, both the Resident Evil 2 remake and the Resident Evil 3 remake left us with excellent impressions. I don’t think anyone would be disappointed to see Dino Crisis return in that way, or am I wrong?

Of course, there is always the possibility of a remaster, but considering that the first Dino Crisis was released last year for PS5 and PS4 through PlayStation Store and then, just weeks ago, arrived on PC along with its sequel through GOG, using logic, it would make much more sense for the next thing we receive to be a sequel or a remake.
Several months ago, Capcom conducted a big survey asking players which games they would like to see return. The winner, by a wide margin, was Dino Crisis, with more than 200,000 votes, followed closely by Mega Man, if I remember correctly. The community has spoken, and Capcom remains firm in its campaign to bring back those old iconic sagas, so everything seems to indicate that…

Everything seems to indicate that we’ve speculated enough. For you as much as for me, all we can do is wait, although, as I have said many times, hope is the last thing to be lost, right? Now, why don’t you jump into the comments and tell us what you think about the idea of Dino Crisis coming back? Or you can also share your best memories with those old titles! We all have them, for sure! You know, gamer, we’ll be reading you! 🙂
