The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, TBA This Year
Okay, this is the second article about Cthulhu in two days, but it鈥檚 not my fault that Lovecraft鈥檚 works lend themselves to all this and much more. And it鈥檚 also not my fault that studios like Big Bad Wolf Studio (Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, scheduled for 2026) and ACE Team, the developer of today鈥檚 game, seem to have coordinated to create games set in this terrifying universe. And if you think about it, maybe there鈥檚 something to it, since they share the same publisher, Nacon.
Today, we鈥檙e talking about The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, a first-person multiplayer extraction and horror game, which will be launched sometime in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam, and is set on a sinister island that we will venture deeper and deeper into. In this game, we will be able to form a team of up to four people, and coordinate through voice chat and other indicators that will appear on our screens, to unravel together the mysteries and secrets of the deadly and unpredictable jungle.
Welcome to the Cursed Island
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu can be played both solo and cooperatively with up to four players, although from the start, it is clear that the dynamic of this game is heavily oriented towards cooperative multiplayer, which will undoubtedly be where it stands out the most. In the video above, we can see part of its gameplay, which, leaving aside judgments about whether it is real or not (something unnecessarily debated in the comments of the video), even if it is “staged,” this gameplay is designed to reflect in the video certain situations and mechanics that otherwise might not be shown. My advice: ignore the video comments.
As for its story, there is not much we can say, since we only know what its Steam page tells us and what we can see in its Official Reveal Trailer. There is a galleon, so we can deduce that we are perhaps in the mid-17th century, and the clothing and weapons that can be seen in the game seem to support this assumption of mine. Additionally, the game never officially states that it is an “extraction” game, although given the mechanics described on Steam, and again, according to my own judgment, that is exactly what it is.

In this game, we will join a group of explorers to traverse a mysterious island in search of treasures. While aboard our galleon, we will be able to choose our weapons and equipment, before beginning the adventure and diving into the mysterious jungle that we can see in the distance. The deeper we go, the greater the dangers we will face, but everything will be worth it when we unlock the passage to a legendary underground world where, according to rumors, unimaginable riches await us.
In this lethal environment, the supernatural forces that we will gradually discover will not only try to hunt us down, but they will also alter our perception of reality, doing everything in their power to destabilize our sanity. Eventually, as if the dangers were not enough, we will also have to face doubt and paranoia within the group, as the boundary between reality and illusion becomes blurred.

As we mentioned before, The Mound鈥檚 real strength will be its cooperative gameplay, where communication and camaraderie will be crucial to survival. As madness takes over, hallucinations will become more intense and tangible. More than once, we will be forced to decide whether we have time to evaluate each situation, or instead, act more instinctively, but we have to remember that every decision will bring its consequences! We must make an effort to complete the mission without getting sidetracked, because if we do, it will be at our own risk. Maintaining lucidity, completing our objectives, and returning to the galleon as soon as possible will be our primary goals.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu will arrive on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC sometime this year, so we are definitely expecting news soon regarding its confirmed release date or window, technical requirements, and some additional details. It would be very smart of us to add it to our Wishlists right away. We obviously already did. And while we wait, since we have no choice, how about taking a look at the comments and telling us what you think of this super intriguing concept? You know, gamer, we鈥檒l be reading you! 馃槈
