Big Bad Wolf Studio (The Council – 2018, Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong – 2022) and publisher Nacon (Steelrising – 2022, Robocop: Rogue City – 2023) have recently announced their upcoming horror adventure inspired by the universe of H.P. Lovecraft, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, set to release sometime in 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. This game, which at least from its Cinematic Reveal Trailer seems to be a narrative marvel, is developed with UE5 and will offer environments that defy the laws of physics, creating an oppressive and immersive atmosphere.
As we already know, cinematics often don’t reflect the actual gameplay of the final product, but, as is the case here, where the game has just been revealed, I choose to believe. Obviously, it’s still early, but without a doubt, throughout the rest of the year, we’ll be getting more information, maybe even a gameplay preview. In the meantime, and since we have no other choice XD, let’s enjoy the Official Cinematic Reveal Trailer of Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, brought to us by IGN:
“In R’lyeh, All Dreams End”
Okay, when we talk about Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, we’re talking about a Lovecraftian horror narrative thriller where we will take on the role of Noah, an agent sent to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a group of miners at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Accompanied by Key, an artificial intelligence that will assist us in our mission, we will have to explore the endless corridors of R’lyeh, the colossal ancient sunken city, while facing the horrors brought upon our minds by the very presence of Cthulhu.
With our help, Noah will face cosmic horrors that will test his sanity, forcing him to solve complex puzzles and make decisions that will shape his fate. Ancile, the secret Interpol division Noah belongs to, specializes in unexplained mysteries and occult affairs. This will immerse him in a story filled with deep characters and an elaborate narrative that, based on our choices, will lead to multiple endings, each with different secrets to uncover.

2053. Across the world, the hidden threat is becoming increasingly evident, and strange, unexplainable events are multiplying. As Earth‘s surface resources dwindle, powerful corporations venture into the uncharted depths of the oceans, ignoring the ancient horror that is about to awaken.
Being clear that in this world, or at least in our mind, the line between reality and hallucination becomes blurred, we’ll have to face nightmares and cosmic abominations that will push the limits of our sanity. With Key by our side at all times, we’ll have to follow clues and gather scattered evidence, using our detective skills to uncover the secrets hidden within R’lyeh.

Obviously, this won’t be the first time the works of the master H.P. Lovecraft inspire a story set in the future, considering not only games but also movies and series, but without a doubt, this aims to stand out from the rest, or at least from what we’ve already seen, just as the officially presented cinematic seems to do, don’t you think? Either way, we’ll have to wait before jumping to conclusions.
Logically, its technical requirements haven’t been, and won’t be, revealed at least this year, just like its release date or window, unless something unexpected comes up. Still, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check out its Steam page to keep track of it, and before you ask, of course, you can find it right below. And now, why don’t you drop by the comments and tell us what you think of this first “cinematic” look at this intriguing title? You know, gamer, we’ll be reading you! 🙂
