Let’s Review the Announcements from Pokémon Presents 2025

Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, opened this year’s Pokémon Presents, setting the stage for an endless stream of news and details about various games and events, including Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Pokémon Champions, Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet, the Pokémon Pocket trading card game, Pokémon Concierge, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Masters EX, Pokémon UNITE, Pokémon Sleep, and Pokémon Café ReMix. Additionally, information about the languages in which the franchise’s games will be available was shared.

While the updates seem never-ending, which is obviously super positive-we’ll try to give you a quick rundown of everything announced. And I say “try” because no quick rundown could ever do justice to the announcements made here. So, let’s dive in:

  • Pokémon Champions: A brand-new title that brings the best of Pokémon battles into one place. According to the announcement, it will introduce a fresh approach to familiar mechanics, allowing players to create countless strategies regardless of their experience level. Additionally, Pokémon can be transferred from Pokémon HOME, and players will enjoy cross-platform battles on both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
  • Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet: These titles will feature multiple events related to Pokémon Day. Players who want to receive a special case for their SmartRotom must enter the Mystery Gift password revealed during the Pokémon Presents! Plus, they should get ready for massive appearances of red, green, and blue Pokémon, where Shiny Pokémon will be more likely to appear! Also, in the coming weeks, the formidable Meowscarada, Skeledirge, and Quaquaval will be appearing in a series of Tera Raid Battles, so Trainers better be prepared to face them!
  • Pokémon Trading Card Game & Pokémon Pocket: The new themed booster pack, Triumphant Light, is arriving in Pokémon Pocket today, February 28, along with some in-game events. The Formidable Genes Expansion returns with booster packs that include at least one card of rarity ◆◆◆◆ or higher. There will also be special missions that players can complete to earn great rewards. Lastly, depending on their battling skills, players can test themselves in ranked matches coming at the end of March. As for the popular Pokémon Trading Card Game, the first glimpses of the cards set to arrive in 2025 have been revealed, sparking curiosity about how Mega Evolution will impact gameplay strategies!
  • Pokémon Concierge: Netflix’s innovative stop-motion series, Pokémon Concierge, has been nominated for several awards, and its second season is already in production. Test footage of some of the Pokémon that will be introduced soon has been shown, along with a preview of the new adventures of Haru and Psyduck at the Pokémon resort, which you’ll be able to fully enjoy starting in September 2025. Until then, the first four episodes of the series will be available for a limited time on the Official Pokémon YouTube Channel!
  • Pokémon GO: The Pokémon GO Tour: Unova – Global event kicks off on March 1! While it’s active, the Legendary Pokémon Black Kyurem and White Kyurem will appear everywhere, including in raids. Additionally, players will have the chance to face Victini and Shiny Meloetta. The new season, featuring Kubfu and Urshifu, begins on March 4. During the Pokémon Presents broadcast, a promo code was revealed that lets players encounter a Pokémon of their choice from the available options!
  • Pokémon Masters EX: Two new Master Sync Pairs were announced for Pokémon Masters EX. On one hand, May (Neo Champion) with Primal Kyogre Shiny Pokémon, and on the other, Brendan (Neo Champion) with Primal Groudon Shiny Pokémon. Additionally, the game is celebrating its five and a half years, meaning players who log in will receive 3,000 gems as a gift!
  • Pokémon UNITE: Three new Pokémon will soon join the battle arena in Pokémon UNITE. We’re talking about Suicune, Alolan Raichu, and Alcremie! Additionally, players will once again be able to compete in the iconic Mare Nostrum Stadium, though this option will only be available for a limited time. A new type of Unite Battle, Clash 500, will be introduced, where the first to score 500 points wins. The new Æos technology will allow players to activate a special effect whenever they score a certain number of points. Furthermore, during Pokémon Presents, a gift code was revealed that can be redeemed for a Platinum Boost Medal for Suicune!
  • Pokémon Sleep: Players will be able to dispel nightmares in Pokémon Sleep when Cresselia and Darkrai appear in an upcoming event!
  • Pokémon Café ReMix: There were quite a few sweet surprises here, including the new Appletun Jelly Refreshment recipe. By completing a special in-game event, players can choose either Flapple or Appletun to join their roster. Additionally, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly will gradually appear in batches of special outfits. If you log in now, you’ll see Pikachu in its Gourmet Outfit join your team, and if you log in for three consecutive days, Eevee in its Gourmet Outfit will also join you!

At this point, we can say we have a clear favorite, or rather, our Poké-anxiety is focused on a specific point, which is why we saved this title for last: Without a doubt, the highlight of this year’s Pokémon Presents was everything related to the upcoming Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and the stunning tour of Lumiose City!

We Can’t Wait for Pokémon Legends: Z-A!

During Pokémon Presents, we were able to enjoy the new trailer for the highly anticipated title, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, where we got new details about this adventure in Lumiose City. This time, players can choose between Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile as their starter Pokémon shortly after arriving in the city, which is undergoing an urban development plan aimed at making it the perfect place for both humans and Pokémon.

Fans of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y from 2013 will notice that this version of Lumiose City differs greatly from the one in those games, featuring more green spaces and cutting-edge buildings. In this new city, human-frequented places like shops, cafés, and restaurants coexist with more natural areas like lakes and parks, all arranged around Prism Tower, the city’s central landmark.

Additionally, players will be able to interact with wild Pokémon, battle them, and capture them with Poké Balls. The city has designated “wild zones” created by Quasartico Inc., the company overseeing Lumiose City’s urban development plan. Some Pokémon will flee at the sight of humans, so players will need different strategies to approach them.

As a major innovation, Pokémon Legends: Z-A will feature real-time actions during battles, both for Pokémon and their Trainers! In previous games, Pokémon could only perform one action per turn, but in this new title, the battlefield will be much more dynamic! Furthermore, in addition to type compatibility, new mechanics will come into play, such as the exact timing to switch Pokémon or use moves, the duration of each move, and the area of effect for attacks. These fresh features, never before seen in the franchise, are undoubtedly some of the most exciting aspects of the game!

So…

This year’s Pokémon Presents, celebrating Pokémon’s 29th anniversary, has undoubtedly left us with tons of information, announcements, and reveals that will keep the fan community excited for months!

We leave you with the news, and we really hope we’ve passed on our excitement for Pokémon Legends: Z-A! XD …And now, it’s your turn! Head over to the comments and share your thoughts on the news, your best experiences with the Pokémon games, or simply tell us which games are your favorites and which of these announcements excited you the most!
