CyberTaxi: Crazy Driving Game Coming Soon!

When it comes to driving games, we’ve seen many, perhaps too many, come and go over the past decades. Why do I say decades? You’ll understand soon enough. The thing is, among so many titles, it’s always been obvious that many were just copies of concepts based on copies made from other copies. Because of this, the truly original ones, those that managed to bring a fresh twist to the genre, whether through mechanics, originality, or innovative gameplay, have stood out over time. And that brings us to this point. During the first quarter of 2025, Hed Media Games will release CyberTaxi: Lunatic Nights, a wild first-person action-driving game set in a strict futuristic Prison City, where obeying traffic laws will be the least of your concerns.

As you can see in the video below, CyberTaxi: Lunatic Nights immediately dazzles with its visuals, and combined with its frantic gameplay, it can only mean long hours of fun behind the wheel in this fusion between Carmageddon and Crazy Taxi. Maybe all these mixed concepts and references only confuse you, and if so, well, my bad. Instead, I just invite you to see for yourself the Official Gameplay Reveal Trailer of CyberTaxi: Lunatic Nights, brought to you by IGN.

A Harsh Dystopian Future

As expected, to put you right in the middle of the action in a game called CyberTaxi, obviously, you’re a taxi driver! XD. And what’s your motivation? Well, this is where things get interesting, because apparently, your sister has been falsely accused and sent to Prison City. And you… maybe you had nothing better to do, or it was just Thursday, I don’t know, but the point is, you decide to go rescue her from that horrible place. You’re a taxi driver, so the most obvious way to get in and move around is by doing what you do best, driving your TAXI!

CyberTaxi: Lunatic Nights is, as its developers define it, “a filled-with-firearms taxi driving simulator set in a dark-noir dystopian city, also known as Prison City.” Here, you’ll play as a taxi driver whose name we still don’t know, embarking on what we could call a “rescue mission” with the goal of freeing your falsely accused sister from that place. To do so, besides your trusty taxi, you’ll have access to a wide range of weapons, both personal and vehicle-mounted, with this customization being one of the game’s strongest points.

BUT, in addition to all these features, the game will offer a ton of unique missions and highly entertaining mechanics. Besides typical transport missions where you pick someone up and drive them from point A to point B, you’ll have to defend yourself from thugs roaming the city, make sure you always reach your destination, keep an eye on your fuel reserves, and, of course, your ammo. CyberTaxi: Lunatic Nights offers a full-scale driving simulator experience, which comes with some interesting features:

  • Dynamic real-world simulator: fuel ignition and battery mechanics, dynamic weather conditions, real-time suspension, and full-scale driving cockpit with headlights and windshield wipers.
  • Unique fare and mission system: your clients will always have additional tasks for you. Besides driving from point A to point B, you may have to find someone’s keys in a sewer system, take down thugs in an abandoned school, or locate a lost cat in an old church.
  • Gentle Delivery system: deliver a pizza or an old pirate ship in a bottle in one piece, as these gentle items have a health bar.
  • Weapons and armor system: use various types of weapons to take down enemies and opponents. Also, buy vehicle shields at workshop gas stations to reinforce your taxi’s chassis.
  • Taxi customization: personalize your vehicle at different service stations scattered throughout the map.
  • On-foot action: you can enter or exit your taxi anywhere you need to, and some missions (fares) will even require you to do so to explore certain areas.
  • Comprehensive interaction systems: interact with various objects and elements, discovering and taking part in different mini-games across Prison City.
  • Customer mood system: each client will have a different mood and will rate your driving style on the way to their destination.
  • Loot and collectibles system: you’ll find various items and cash that could come in handy in the most unexpected situations!
  • Retro-style story: inspired by ‘80s and ‘90s movies, it revolves around the search for your sister, as we mentioned earlier, exiled in the dreadful Prison City.
  • Destroy enemy vehicles and thugs roaming the streets: you’ll have to kill enemies and destroy other vehicles as part of your daily routine!

In CyberTaxi: Lunatic Nights, tons of fun await, along with cash! Have you ever wanted to burn a criminal alive or melt a thug with a plasma cannon? Here, you can do it!… Okay, burning a criminal alive or melting someone with a plasma cannon is definitely bad, but at least here, you can take those practices into the game world!

(Sorry, we were talking about Prison City the whole time, so yeah, you can put your plasma cannon back in the closet now!)

What Does It Remind Me Of?

At the beginning of this article, I mentioned “decades,” and I told you I would explain it later. Well, turns out my old gamer brain remembers a pretty old game that used to run on MS-DOS, called Quarantine, from 1994, developed by Imagexcel and published by GameTek. Just a couple of years later, it made its way to 3DO, PlayStation, and Sega Saturn. This game, obviously without CyberTaxi’s depth, was basically a taxi simulator in a futuristic city, with the typical graphics of that time.

Why does it remind me of it? Well, all you need to do is watch a video, like the one I conveniently placed just below these lines, or check out a screenshot of the game (also down there), and you’ll understand why I think CyberTaxi: Lunatic Nights feels like, without even mentioning it, a spiritual successor to Quarantine from the ‘90s. The taxi, the passengers, the futuristic city, and the total disregard for human life. Almost the same formula that seems to be working once again in this title from Hed Media Games.

Let’s recap the important parts. CyberTaxi: Lunatic Nights is coming to the Steam store sometime during the first quarter of 2025, and you can already download and try its demo for free! What are you waiting for? And obviously, after that, you have the duty, the obligation, to jump into the comments and let us know what you think about this crazy game, because, you know, gamer, we’ll be reading you! 🙂
