StarRupture: A Unique and Captivating Blend
Creepy Jar, the creators of the highly successful Green Hell, will bring us this year the innovative StarRupture, a game that aims to blend features from various genres in a way that, as far as I can recall, hasnât been seen until now. The developers define it as âa first-person open world base-building game with advanced combat and tons of explorationâ, where you can play solo or in cooperative multiplayer on a literally enormous planet that will also be in constant flux, whether due to climatic factors or recurring cataclysms and earthquakes. You will need to gather resources, build and manage your base, defend it from endless hordes of hostile creatures, and do whatever it takes to achieve your primary goal: SURVIVE.
One of the first things that stands out about the gameplay shown in the previews is the immense freedom provided by an environment as gigantic as it is dangerous, packed with secrets waiting to be discovered and mysteries designed to keep players glued to the screen for hours. On the other hand, base construction and expansion will obviously be one of the gameâs pillars, meaning players will have to search for, extract, and process materials to develop a complex industrial system. This system, in turn, will supply other resources and enable research into new technologies to upgrade facilities, tools, and weapons.
What Do We Know About StarRupture?
Since the game is still in its final development stages, a lot of information has yet to be made public. BUT, there are plenty of things we do know, and if we know them, so will you, gamer. Letâs start with its key features as listed on its Steam page:
“Explore a mysterious planet in an ever-changing open world torn by recurring cataclysms. Build a complex industrial system to extract resources, produce goods and expand your base. Fight against hordes of alien monsters to defend your base and survive, alone or with friends.”
- Explore the deadly planet: Explore this vast open world, rich in resources, places, and secrets to be found. Discover the beauty of this constantly reborn dangerous world torn apart by repeated cataclysms.
- Build to thrive: Search, mine, and process resources to develop your complex industrial system. Unlock new technologies that will allow you and your base to survive the harsh conditions on the planet.
- Fight to survive: The planet will surprise you at every turn. Extreme temperatures are not the only challenge youâll face. Get ready to defend yourself, your team, and your base from a horde of aggressive alien creatures.
- Alone or with friends: Experience and survive everything this harsh planet throws at you. Do it alone or in a group of up to four friends. This world is waiting to be discovered.
Now then, does StarRupture have a storyline? Of course it does! As you may have seen in the video accompanying this article, at the beginning, the following text appears:
    “The year is 2201.
Even petty criminals are sent to distant planets to gather resources for global corporations.
Casualties caused by lethal conditions are ignored.”
Based on this, we can deduce that we might take on the role of one of these âpetty criminalsâ, sent to a distant planet to collect resources for some massive Earth corporation. Obviously, we will have to fend for ourselves, as the company wonât take responsibility if anything happens to us. So, our only goal, if we even hope to make it back home, will be to survive long enough to do so.
What else do we know? Well, that all its social media, and I mean all of them, are listed on its Steam page, which you can find at the end of this article. And that it will soon be available in Early Access, which is no small thing, right? If I were you, Iâd go ahead and add it to my wishlist right now.
What Does It Remind Me Of?
Alright, this is a tiny ânew sectionâ Iâll start including in some of my articles. My idea is that if there are some of you out there who, like me, are old-school gamers, youâll feel connected when you realize that âyouâre not the only one who sees similarities to games from years past.â And for the new generations, this is a chance to learn that we lived through the birth of many of the genres that are trending today.
That said, this title reminded me a lot of Battlezone II: Combat Commander from 1999. I mention this one specifically because it was the first of its kind that I played, where I noticed several features present in StarRupture. Donât just take my word for it, go ahead and google it, youâll be surprised. Of course, keeping in mind the vast differences, since Iâm comparing 90s graphics with modern visuals. And maybe also a fair bit of No Manâs Sky, something that more recent gamers will recognize much more easily than Battlezone XD.
Still, I said it before and Iâll say it again. Just as you read in the title of this article, I believe StarRupture offers A Unique and Captivating Blend that definitely deserves a spot on our radar, if it wasnât already there. And while we wait for its system requirements and official release date to be announced, why not drop by the comments and share your thoughts on this intriguing project? You know, gamer, weâll be reading you! đ
