Can a game that hasnât even been released yet have a dark past? Well, yes, it can. Many games have been launched carrying the burden of some previous failure of their developers, and honestly, it hasnât always gone badly for them. This wonderful industry that inspires us has proven that, on many occasions, the fruit does fall far from the tree, and that a misstep, even if it happens early on, can happen to anyone. Do you wake up in a good mood every single day?
TeamKill Media was in the public eye for several months after their 2023 title, Quantum Error, was rated as one of the worst games of the year. They managed to partially redeem themselves last year with the release of Son and Bone, which, while it hasnât gathered many positive reviews, hasnât faced much negative criticism either. Personally, although I didnât play Son and Bone, I think criticism sometimes just looks for problems where there arenât any. Why do I say this? This title, a first-person shooter with frantic combat in a world of dinosaurs and aliens, never hid what it was offering. So, if after watching its trailer, reading its description, etc., you bought it, well, you got exactly what the description promised, nothing more, nothing less.
That said, while they had partially recovered from their earlier stumble, perhaps they hadnât fully succeeded yet when they announced their next game. We are talking about none other than Code Violet, a third-person action game with⌠can you guess? Yes, dinosaurs! Oh, but this isnât just another game from the bunch. According to its own developers, and with a hint of modesty, it aims to be a âspiritual successor to Dino Crisis,â one of those legendary titles for which weâre still waiting for an official remake. And I do mean official, since weâve heard of some impressive-looking fan-made projects that, as much as it pains us to admit, are still unofficial and lack much of what made us fall in love with that old survival horror from Capcom in the style of the original Resident Evil.
What Is Code Violet About?
Code Violet will arrive, at least initially, exclusively on PS5 during July 2025. This third-person action and horror game is set in a dystopian future in the 25th century. After a cataclysm that left Earth uninhabitable, humanityâs last survivors, unable to reproduce, colonize the exoplanet Trappist 1-E (no jokes, please) in a desperate bid for a fresh start. But their survival depends on a sinister and somewhat crazy plan: traveling back in time to kidnap women from the past and taking them to the Aion bioengineering complex to serve as surrogates.
A simply brilliant plan without flaws. What could possa-bly go wrong?
Violet Sinclair, our protagonist, is one of the victims of these incursions. A young woman ripped from her own time, she must explore the Aion complex, a place now devastated and full of terrifying prehistoric creatures, while unraveling the truth behind the colonyâs plans and fighting for her survival. The evacuation protocol has been activated, and her main goal is to escape the complex and save those she cares about.
Donât worry, we donât like spoilers either, but everything weâre sharing here is simply the official information about the game. So, if there are spoilers, itâs not our fault, seriously đ
Our Opinion on the Trailer
Now, letâs be objective. Watching the trailer, our first impression can be summed up in one word: phenomenal. Sure, I know that the appearance of a trailer isnât everything, but letâs be optimistic for a moment, shall we? At first glance, you can see a fairly polished and decent graphic style. While we donât yet have specific technical information, itâs clear theyâve worked on it more than on previous titles, or with greater dedication. The game combines combat, stealth, and exploration in a tense environment where Violet not only has to face prehistoric creatures but also the enigmatic Director, who will do everything possible to stop her and thwart her plans.
Personally, I donât own a PS5, so when the time comes, another member of our team will have to try it firsthand and share his opinion. As for me, game trailers often remind me of things I already know. Here, for example, I see a bit of Dino Crisis, a touch of Aliens (the second film in the saga from 1986), and some other ingredients that result in a visual mix that, I must admit, doesnât entirely displease me. The video you can watch above includes a disclaimer at the end: âFootage captured on PC. Not all images appear in-game,â which, letâs be honest, might make us a little worried. But just a little, right? XD
We still have no idea about the gameplay, since in the video weâve shared here, you can only see Violet walking for a few seconds with her weapon in hand. Aside from the impressive cinematics, this is probably the only moment of real gameplay in the video. The truth is that, despite TeamKill Mediaâs previous stumbles, theyâve managed to capture my attention enough, and I say this completely personally.
Weâll have to wait a bit longer for more information from the developers. In the meantime, why not drop by the comments and let us know what you think about this proposal? Would you play it? Do you have little faith in the studio, or are you willing to give them your vote of confidence? You know, gamer, weâll be reading you đ
