La Quimera: The New Sci-Fi FPS TBA Soon

The independent studio Reburn, formerly known as 4A Games Ukraine, has officially announced its new project: La Quimera, a new first-person shooter with sci-fi elements set in a futuristic version of Latin America, whose release date will be announced soon, but you can already add it to your Wishlist on Steam. This title marks a new chapter for the developers responsible for the acclaimed Metro saga.

One of the surprises of the announcement was the revelation that the world and narrative of La Quimera were written and created by renowned film director Nicolas Winding, well known for movies like The Neon Demon and Drive, in collaboration with E.J.A. Warren. La Quimera combines elements of Latin American folklore with ultra-futuristic technology, which might remind us of one or two gems of the genre, but still manages to stand out in an original way. Development

The development team at Reburn consists of more than 110 professionals, whose previous work includes game design, art, sound engineering, programming, and much more from the entire Metro saga, as well as the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. The leader of this project is Oleksandr Kostiuk, while CEO and founder Dmytro Lymar has been working in the industry since 2006, having previously served as director and CEO of 4A Games Ukraine.

One of the biggest differences from the studio’s previous titles is that this time, it will be possible to play solo or in co-op with up to two other players. If you have been a fan of their past projects, you will surely recognize familiar elements, such as the intense shooting mechanics and the narrative from an intimate perspective, combined with the new features that will make La Quimera a must-play for all fans, not just of their previous sagas but of the action genre in general.

Latin America in 2064

Between the 2030s and 2040s, a series of man-made natural disasters led to the collapse of global systems and the fragmentation of human communities. Now, in 2064, most nation-states have ceased to exist, and the political entities of this new world are microstates engaged in endless inter-state and corporate conflicts. Because of this, they no longer allocate government budgets to maintain their military forces. Instead, they rely on highly trained and organized mercenary teams. This is the “golden age” of private military companies, also called PMCs.

La Quimera will put us in the role of PMC agents, embarking on a high-risk campaign in the dystopian vision of a futuristic Latin America, where we will traverse everything from a stunning megalopolis to a lush jungle, using highly advanced weaponry and technology to fight against rival factions. Whether we choose to play solo or in a cooperative team, we will squad up with other mercenaries to coordinate tactics, combine firepower with combat abilities and share resources, always accompanied by a personal AI combat assistant, which will help us by providing tactical information in dangerous situations or serving as a guide in quieter environments.

Weaponry and Enemy Variety

La Quimera will offer extensive customization options. Acquiring the right tools will be crucial in this unforgiving environment, so we will need to keep our selection of weapons and exoskeleton up to date with a vast array of parts. Every weapon, ability and exoskeleton type will allow us to create the perfect combination suited to our playstyle, helping us face every enemy that comes our way.

Speaking of enemies, in La Quimera we will go up against a wide range of them, not just human but robotic as well. The latter are much more resistant to conventional weapons, and in many cases, they have special abilities such as flying, climbing walls, or jumping great heights, not to mention their advanced weaponry. And among human enemies, well, everything you would expect from guerrilla commandos: assault troops, snipers, and elite fighters, who, in addition to wielding high-caliber weapons, also carry extremely strong shields, among many other classes.

So…

Reburn has announced that more information about the game, along with additional visual material, will be shared in the coming months. Among this, we expect to receive details about its technical requirements. In the meantime, all we can do is wait and add La Quimera to our Wishlist on Steam.

And as we always say, since we have to wait, why not drop by the comments and chat about what we think of this spectacular concept? You know the drill, gamer, we’ll be reading you! 😉
