Resident Evil Requiem will be released in less than a month, on February 27, 2026. As you surely already know, social media is on fire and the hype is through the roof, and of course it is not without reason. The next and latest entry in the saga has many elements, not only in story, gameplay, or graphics, that are generating all kinds of emotions within the gaming community and a massive sense of anxiety about its arrival in just a few weeks. And as if all of this were not enough, Capcom is not standing still and continues to find the most unexpected ways to reach us!
Recently, they released an amazing live action trailer as the final product of a campaign that began in what could be described as a curious way. Capcom distributed red posters with the phrase “Evil has always had a name”, along with a QR code that, when scanned, led directly to the trailer. Entertainment Weekly was the outlet that uncovered the full campaign, giving even greater visibility to the trailer you can see here, which tells the story of Grace and Alyssa, two characters connected to the narrative of the game. Here it is, straight from IGN’s YouTube channel:
“Evil has always had a name”
The short you just watched stars Maika Monroe, the actress who was praised for her performance in Longlegs (2024), and it tells the story of a mother and her daughter trying to survive the zombie outbreak in Raccoon City. As if the context of the new entry in the Resident Evil saga were not enough, the trailer stands out for not being a typical horror short filled with predictable scares, but instead goes further by showing a strong and heartbreaking human side of the zombie apocalypse. Its story begins on a normal day in the house where the mother and daughter live.
After watching them enjoy time together, we witness a brutal shift in tone, which is precisely when the virus erupts in the city and chaos takes over the streets. It does not take long before we see them running, hiding, or fighting for their lives, amid a madness of screams, gunfire, fire, sirens, and zombies tearing people apart everywhere. The action is not only frenetic, but it also takes the time to show the strong bond that unites them, and how it grows stronger in the face of the emerging chaos.

Obviously you have already seen it, but it must be said that the ending is impressively tragic. It is clear that Capcom did not hold back when it came to showing how devastating a zombie outbreak could be for ordinary people. Maika Monroe commented on the project, “What I loved was that it had a lot of heart. It was really heartbreaking to see how the story unfolded. I thought it was a very interesting and new way to promote a video game”. The actress was delighted with the idea of returning to the nostalgia of the 90s and to Raccoon City, and she was especially surprised by and fond of the ending of the short, which we will not mention just in case you have not seen it yet. If that is the case, what are you waiting for!?
Casting Maika Monroe was a deliberate and smart choice, considering her recent work in horror films. The short manages to capture that sense of human tragedy that sometimes gets lost when you experience the story by playing the hero and shooting at everything that moves. In a way, this perspective makes us think about all the individual stories that could have existed behind the outbreak, and not only about the main protagonists of the saga. As I like to call it, seeing the outbreak from the other perspective, the point of view of the victims. Without a doubt, an excellent production. Do we really need anything else to keep all of us fully focused on the launch of Requiem?

So…
Maika Monroe, I tip my hat to you, and to the entire production behind “Evil has always had a name”. Resident Evil Requiem will be released on February 27, 2026, and will be available on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC. And I will not say the obvious, because I assume it is already part of all our wishlists. What I will ask is that you put a hand on your heart and take a moment to visit the comments to tell us how many tears… I mean… what you think about this impressive live action trailer. You know gamer, we will be reading you! 😉
