Larian’s Divinity Will Revolutionize TB RPGs

Among the many announcements that took place during The Game Awards 2025 event, one of the most surprising announcements was Larian’s new project. We are talking about Divinity, a turn based role playing game that aims to be even bigger than Baldur’s Gate 3. Can you imagine that? While there is not much more information beyond the juicy trailer you can see below, Swen Vincke, CEO of the Belgian studio, has given an interview with Bloomberg, where he shared his intentions regarding this new title.

Vincke has confirmed that the new Divinity will be “a role playing game with turn based combat” featuring all the elements that define Larian, following the acclaimed Divinity: Original Sin II and Baldur’s Gate 3, “but taking everything to the next level”. Said by its own CEO, with this game “…this is going to be us unleashed!” Additionally, he has promised that the narrative will be deep and will live up to any possible expectation.

Like Larian’s previous titles, Divinity will launch in early access, but not in 2026. Baldur’s Gate took Larian six years to develop, but it is clear that this time the studio aims to finish it in three, or four years at most. Development of Divinity began in 2024, at the moment they set aside the game they were working on with Wizards of the Coast. In order to stay on schedule, they are developing the different quests and stories in parallel, instead of following the traditional linear approach. Because of this, they have significantly expanded their team of writers and narrative designers, which currently includes around 530 employees spread across seven studios in different countries.

According to Bloomberg, Larian’s CEO grew fangs as he confidently stated “Baldur’s Gate 3 was a good game and I am proud of it, but I think this one is going to be much better”Vincke did not say this only because the project is larger, but because “Divinity’s systems are created for a video game, while Baldur’s Gate 3 adapts the systems of a tabletop game, Dungeons & Dragons”. This new title will debut a new graphics engine and will double down on cinematic storytelling, although the success of their previous project gives them both creative and financial freedom to experiment more with narrative, especially when it comes to decisions and consequences.

Vincke left the statement “We are doing a couple of things that, I think, you have not seen in any RPG before” hanging in the air… Finally, he took a moment to update Baldur’s Gate 3 sales figures, which have surpassed 20 million units across PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Mac, both physical and digital. While this is not information that adds anything to the current Divinity project, it undoubtedly ties back to the freedom we mentioned earlier. Whether achieved on purpose or by chance, the fact is that doing things right clearly brings positive consequences.

So…

We all know what a new Divinity title can mean, whether or not it is connected to the narratives of previous entries. If there is one thing the cinematic trailer we shared here has achieved, it is sending hype levels and expectations through the roof, we can all agree on that, right? And now, since it is time for us to keep an eye out for possible updates regarding Larian’s new project, how about you head down to the comments and tell us what you thought, both about the news and the impressive video that accompanies this article?
