Spellcasters Chronicles: New From Quantic!

The French studio Quantic Dream, led by David Cage, has become well known in the video game industry by bringing to life projects that have turned into icons, all of them sharing certain similarities, such as the special emphasis on the narrative aspect of their stories and the depth of their characters. Among them we can find, for example, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, Detroit: Become Human, or even the upcoming Star Wars Eclipse, which hadn’t been heard from in quite a while. Quantic Dream was acquired by NetEase in 2022, and has just announced a new game completely different from its usual genres.

The new title is Spellcasters Chronicles, a free multiplayer game with battles between teams of three players. As a team-based multiplayer, it combines action and strategy in a different way, inviting players to unleash magical chaos like never before, according to what was said in a press release that shared official information about the game. This new MOBA is scheduled to begin its closed beta on PC through Steam at the end of 2025. Below you can see the Official Reveal Trailer of Spellcasters Chronicles for yourself, courtesy of IGN:

ā€œA unique combination of third-person action and strategic decision-makingā€

That’s how Quantic Dream defined Spellcasters Chronicles in the press release. In addition, when delving into the gameplay, they mentioned that it would feature 25-minute matches, in which the three players on each team would face the others using Spellcasters, mages of different archetypes, each with their own identities, roles, and unique abilities. The arenas will be of ā€œepicā€ size and highly vertical, allowing the characters to fly and move swiftly through each environment, capture altars, and destroy their opponents’ ā€œLifestonesā€.

While several typical MOBA elements will be recognizable, Spellcasters Chronicles will include other features that will give the title its own identity, setting it apart from others in the same genre. Through deck-building, the Spellcasters, who can fill support, tank, or DPS roles, will have over 50 spells and ā€œcolossalā€ summons to choose from, making it easy for them to change the course of any battle. This will definitely be one of those games where nothing’s over until it’s over!

ā€œSpellcasters Chronicles was born as a creative experiment, an opportunity to channel our passion for storytelling into a shared, living world,ā€

-Said GrĆ©goire Diaconu, the game’s director at Quantic Dream, emphasizing that despite the huge difference in genres and styles, the narrative experience that made the studio famous will not be left aside, but rather brought to a genre they have never touched before.

ā€œWe will start our closed beta phase with the core loop focused on arena battles, and will be adding community-driven storytelling and other elements of our macro loop in the coming months.ā€

A few words about Star Wars Eclipse

For his part, the studio’s founder and president, David Cage, openly showed his support for this new project developed by Quantic Dream’s Paris and Montreal offices: ā€œWe seek to bring to life a new form of gaming experience that combines action and strategy while exploring a community-driven narrativeā€, he said in his statement, reminding us that Spellcasters Chronicles is only one of the multiple projects the studio currently has in development, including Star Wars Eclipse.

…Yeah, I know, he could’ve said more, but well, that’s all we’ve got for now.

So…

Okay, Spellcasters Chronicles will see the start of its closed beta very soon, before the end of this year, and it will be for PC through Steam. We remind you that it’s a MOBA featuring battles between teams of three players, and that it will also be free to play, so it would be wise to head to its Steam page right now and add it to your Wishlist. Obviously, we’ve already done it. And once you’ve done your homework, you can go play with the other kids, but before that… drop by the comments and tell us what you think of this new (and different) project from Quantic Dream. You know gamer, we’ll be reading you! šŸ˜‰
