Vantage Studios, The New Ubisoft, Starts Now

Ubisoft and Tencent announced back in March an agreement to create a joint subsidiary in charge of developing some of the French company’s most important projects, including iconic franchises like Assassin’s Creed, (my beloved) Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. Now, this new company or studio already has a name: Vantage Studios, and its journey through this industry we’re so passionate about begins today, October 1st, 2025.

The operations of this new studio start with no fewer than 2,300 employees coming from various Ubisoft teams in Montreal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Sofia, and Barcelona. At the helm will be Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, son of Ubisoft’s current CEO, Yves Guillemot. They will also be responsible for overseeing overall decisions, both creative and business-related.

According to media reports, Vantage Studios will operate under a less centralized model than Ubisoft’s, granting each team greater autonomy over its own projects. This structure aims to offer more flexibility, allowing developers to adapt quickly and nimbly to changes in the industry and the expectations of players.

The formation and launch of this new entity comes after a challenging period for Ubisoft, which had been evaluating different strategic alternatives for months following several years of underperformance. The agreement was made official in March of this year, when Tencent acquired a €1.16 billion stake in the business. The Chinese company will hold a 25% share in Vantage Studios and will act as an advisor to the top management, though creative and executive control will remain in Ubisoft’s hands.

This week has already marked a notable wave of change in the video game industry. Just recently, the acquisition of Electronic Arts by PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners was confirmed, in a historic deal valued at 55 billion dollars, setting a new record for one of the sector’s major third-party companies. EA’s privatization was finalized this very week, and now the start of Vantage Studios’ operations leaves us barely any room to catch our breath when it comes to major industry moves.

Personally, I think that for us as players, all of this can only mean good things, since whenever there are new studio launches, name changes, and so on, the resulting teams usually strive even harder in the work they do, especially if we consider that the mentioned franchises are icons not only of the industry but of us as a community. After the moderately controversial success of The Claws of Awaji (the expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows), Vantage has a clear and open path ahead to focus fully on what we love most: the continuation of great stories, now part of important sagas that have left their mark across generations of players.

So…

Okay, as we said, Vantage Studios begins its journey today, October 1st, 2025. We at MLG can only wish them the best, and of course, we expect the same in return, right? I personally, as an unconditional Far Cry fan despite its obvious ups and downs, am still waiting for news about the development of its seventh numbered installment, which, if it doesn’t face any unexpected delays, is set to release at some point in 2026. So now’s the time we invite you to swing by the comments section and share your thoughts on this new studio, though not so new in essence, and most importantly your expectations for the continuations of your favorite sagas. You know gamer, we’ll be reading you! 😉
