On other occasions we have mentioned how positive it is to find gems, whether independent titles or AAAs, that stand out for their originality, among other aspects. In fact, it is even more positive considering that we are going through an intense moment in this constantly growing market, with countless titles of all calibers and genres arriving day after day. Today it’s time to talk about Orbifold, a frenetic FPS that we will be able to play alone or with friends, developed by the indie studio Wild Vector Games.
What catches our attention is its original proposal, since Orbifold aims to transport us to the Spheres, small and quite compact arenas, spherical in shape, where gravity can be somewhat tricky. These hollow “planetoids” will serve as the stage for a crazy adventure that promises to be as fun as it is challenging. Can you imagine being inside a sphere a few hundred meters wide while gravity always pushes you toward its walls? Welcome to the Spheres
Although it may look like a simple cooperative looter-shooter, Orbifold aims to have its own identity, telling a story through these missions in different Spheres. Through these remnants of the old world we will have to make our way, while fighting against planetary warriors of the past, in order to reach the source of a mysterious distant distress call, and uncover the mystery of the Inversion Event. Whether we do it alone or with friends online or over LAN, the different scenarios of Orbifold will encourage us to explore and come up with new creative combat strategies every time.
In these spherical worlds we will have to get used to the fact that our enemies may sometimes be hidden right above us, even though they’ll be moving along their own “floor,” with their own gravity! The strategic factor of the game will include different classes or roles that each squad member will be able to play, among which we will find scouts, soldiers, and double agents, among others. We will find powerful weapons and countless accumulative upgrades that, at the end of the day, will make the difference in every confrontation against the militant horde.
In addition to the appealing handcrafted level design, Orbifold will also feature procedural generation of different elements, ensuring that no two runs will be the same. Each mission will undoubtedly be an adventure and a challenge different from the previous one, forcing us to adapt if we want to survive, and discover new secrets and superior gear. Honestly, considering the trailer we shared above and the description of the game, all I can think of are endless funny and frenetic situations!
