As part of the Gamescom 2025 Opening Night Live, among several other titles, a really interesting trailer of Routine was shown, a sci-fi first-person action and horror game with a “retro-futuristic” aesthetic, and the latest project from Lunar Software/Raw Fury, known for several games including Kathy Rain (2016), Bad North (2018), Tails Noir (2021), and Kathy Rain 2 (2025). Aesthetically, the idea was to give it that classic look of the vision of the future that existed in the early 80s, for example what we can see in the movie Alien (1979) or its sequel, Aliens (1986), this time to show the abandoned lunar facility where this adventure takes place.
Although there isn’t too much information about this project, the trailer shown by Raw Fury at Gamescom 2025 generated a lot of expectations, since visually at least, it was enough to capture the attention of those present and of the entire gaming community. Here we’ll go over the little information available, along with some comments based on what we’ve been able to see in the video. So before anything else, if you still haven’t seen it, enjoy the Official Release Window Trailer presented at this year’s event, brought here from IGN:
Explore, Observe, Survive
Routine is a first-person science fiction and horror game, set in an abandoned lunar base whose look is, just as we said, retro-futuristic, based on the vision of the future from those magical 80s. In this place we’ll have to explore the facilities while trying to survive unknown threats. Just like we’ve seen in movies, which are, of course, a perfectly reliable source of real, tangible information 😉, everything is usually fine until some lunar base stops responding to communications and falls into absolute silence. You and I know that at that point the only coherent option is to go explore to see what’s going on, and better do it completely alone, right?

This curiosity to explore will eventually lead us to the need to survive, not only against a hostile environment, but against a relentless enemy convinced that you are the real threat. While we face it, or evade it, we’ll gradually uncover terrible secrets that will help us learn the truth about what happened in that place. From abandoned galleries to dormitories in deplorable condition, we’ll have to roam and explore everything, armed only with our versatile HAC Tool, with which we’ll navigate the environment and interact with the world, and it might even serve as a weapon!
I could speak personally here, but I think we all agree that the videos shown in this article remind us of the science fiction movies of those years, not only the ones I mentioned, but plenty of others too. In addition to an immersive story of horror and mystery, Routine promises to be a careful tribute to the best examples of the sci-fi genre’s boom in cinema of the past, whose references jump out at us from the very first moment. And if that weren’t enough, the diegetic sound and the extremely minimalist interface add another layer to the game’s high level of immersion.
So…
Raw Fury still hasn’t shared an exact release date for Routine, but they have announced that it’s expected during the fourth quarter of this 2025. In the meantime, it would be wise of you to add it right now to your Wishlist on Steam, or on your preferred platform. Needless to say, you’ll find all the links right here below. And since we have to wait, how about dropping by the comments and telling us what you think about this captivating concept? You know gamer, we’ll be reading you! 😉
