Quite A Ride: A Very Self-Descriptive Title…

The studio Goodwin Games, which so far only has one previous title published last year, aims to break every boundary we could imagine between reality and madness itself. Quite a Ride, their new title whose release date will be announced soon, offers a subtle and macabre passage between everything we might consider “normal” and another dimension packed with horrors and overwhelming mysteries, all this while we ride our bike on the way to visit a friend.

The truth is that all the information regarding Quite a Ride is extremely recent, so much so that we still don’t know much of what we’d like to tell you here. So then, what’s this article about? Well… The truth is, I’ve personally come across the Official Reveal Trailer for this game while searching for those hidden gems I so enjoy sharing with you. The video simply captivated me, and even having found similarities or references to other well-known works, I believe it’s worth being mentioned here. You can watch the video I’m referring to just below these lines, courtesy of IGN:

Quite A Ride: A Title That Speaks for Itself

As I said, we don’t know too much about this project, BUT, among the things we do know, we can tell you a few important points just so you have an idea of what you’ll be able to expect when the game is finally released. For example, there’s a bicycle, and we ride it, at least at the beginning, and with the sole intention of getting to our friend’s house. Eventually, we’ll find ourselves on a journey where our own sanity is put to the test, pedaling through the fog with the firm conviction of not looking back.

Quite A Ride is a different kind of horror adventure, where our bike and our cellphone, whose battery we’ll have to take care of more than our own life, will be our only weapons of survival. “The fog is unnaturally thick. The trees whisper in the wind. Your phone buzzes with cryptic messages from an unknown sender. And something, or someone, is hunting you. Trapped in this shifting twilight, your only hope is your bicycle. Pedal through changing countryside landscapes, uncover hidden laboratories, and evade the monstrous beings that emerge from the fog, their footsteps always just behind you.

At this point, we’ll assume that you obviously watched the video up above. The reasons why Quite a Ride caught my attention are already quite obvious, even though I do find it somewhat similar to other recent games, for example, Pacific Drive, from Ironwood Studios and Kepler Interactive, released a year ago, in February 2024. To be totally fair, I have to point out that several things about Quite a Ride strike me as a simply original and effective concept. For example, I don’t recall a horror game where I had to ride a bicycle, much less along a deserted, foggy road in Silent Hill style… I also don’t remember that mix of War of the Worlds-style aliens with Xen creatures from the Half-Life universe, which, I should say, sounds more than appealing to me!… And let’s add the cellphone factor, through which we’ll receive all sorts of mysterious messages that we’ll have to follow or decipher… Need I say more?

Here below I’m leaving you some of the features highlighted by the developers on their Steam page:

KEY PILLARS

  • 🚴 Bicycle Survival – Keep pedaling to stay ahead of the horrors lurking in the fog. Stop for too long, and you may not escape.
  • 📱 Mysterious Phone – A cryptic silhouette lives in your phone, sending messages that may help… or deceive you.
  • 🌫 Shifting World – Explore an ever-changing road filled with strange labs, abandoned towns and disturbing discoveries.
  • 🔋 Limited Battery – Your phone’s battery drains over time but recharges only when you ride. Manage your energy wisely. The phone is the key to survival.
  • 👁 Don’t Look Back – The thing that chases you is always near. You can hear it. You can feel it. But if you look at it…
  • 🌍 Collective Progress – Players’ collective global efforts can change the environment, unlocking new locations, hidden characters and secret quests over time.

Quite a Ride is one of those different adventures we won’t want to miss, whether because of the level of immersion it offers, and the result of that mix of unique features, or simply because of its originality. In my case, I’m interested for both reasons! And you?… Now then, at the bottom of this article you’ll obviously find the Steam page for this game, where you can check out its technical requirements, as well as add it to your Wishlist to stay alert for future announcements about its release. And since we all have to wait anyway, you obviously have the moral obligation to swing by the comments and leave us your opinion on this game! You know gamer, we’ll be reading you! 😉
