Deliver At All Costs: Frenetic & Crazy Driving

Over the past few years, we’ve been dazzled by multiple driving games, although perhaps all of them share many similarities. Today we bring you a title developed by Studio Far Out Games and published by KONAMI that will surely break that rule with ease: we’re talking about Deliver At All Costs, a fun and frenetic driving game with an isometric view, which obviously already makes it different from the vast majority, although you’ll have to read below to see if that concept is as novel as it seems. 😉

Leaving aside its visual perspective, there are other aspects of its gameplay that catch our attention, and their combination undoubtedly makes it worthy of being here. Deliver At All Costs is an exciting action game where destruction, absurd humor, and intrigue collide. Your mission, with some exceptions, will always be to do your job and “deliver the package”, no matter if to achieve it you have to face random situations like… I don’t know… the end of the world, maybe?

Those Crazy 50s

Deliver At All Costs will take place in a very crazy version of 1959, and will put us in the shoes of Winston Green, a guy with a mysterious past he can’t leave behind, who will go to any lengths to do his job, which, although it seems simple, couldn’t be further from that. His cargo will be anything but conventional, although his task and objective won’t change. Before we realize it, we’ll be sowing chaos in the city streets, facing traffic, weather events, angry pedestrians, or even meteors or atomic explosions. Pretty crazy, huh?

The 50s were “an era of Rock n’ Roll, polka-dot dresses, and the imminent fear of nuclear annihilation”, just as its Steam description states, and the frenetic gameplay we can see in the video couldn’t do it more justice. It’s true that the setting is right, but as soon as we start the adventure, we’ll have the feeling of being in a modern top-down GTA, spreading destruction wherever we go while struggling to complete our mission.

Adding to the above information, something that can be easily observed in the video is the fluidity with which each different thing happens on screen. Every little person, object, or part of the environment has its own movement, and it happens with total and unique fluidity, without interrupting others or falling into one of those cyclical repetitions that tend to be so annoying. Besides that, we can also see that the environments—or at least a large part of them—are highly destructible, and given the premise this title presents, that’s obviously something very, VERY positive!

What Does It Remind Me Of?

Well, I’ve already mentioned a possible “modern GTA” from a top-down perspective. In fact, the first GTA games had a top-down view, you surely know this, but that’s not 100% “isometric“, right? Okay, well, there were others—many actually—though not as well known, driving games with an isometric view. Without going too far, we can recall some of those titles, both old and new, like Super Woden GP 2, from 2023, made on purpose to look like games of the past. I personally remember some of the old games from classic consoles like Sega Mega Drive or ATARI, which, although played on tracks, were also isometric.

BUT, none of those references truly do this game justice, so, to be somewhat on point, I’m going to bring up a game that does remind me a lot of this one, saving the decades of graphical improvements. I’m talking about Ignition, from 1997. Go ahead, Google it, and you’ll understand what I mean. And if you think that reference isn’t fair either, I could also mention American Fugitive from 2019—there’s no way you don’t see the resemblance here!

Now then, maybe the concept itself isn’t entirely original, but without a doubt, the mix of elements that make Deliver At All Costs worthy of being on our radar remains completely intact. If I were you, I’d be adding it to my Wishlist right now!

Okay, now I really think you have more than enough reasons to keep your eyes on this one, so while we wait for its official release date to be announced, how about stopping by the comments and telling us what you think about this fresh new title? You know, gamer, we’ll be reading you! 🙂
