Behind The Doors: The Next Immersive Horror

CreativeForge Games, quite well known for their Hard West, a western with turn based combat, action, supernatural elements and an isometric view, released back in 2015, have set their sights on something different from everything they have developed since then. This time, we are talking about Behind the Doors, a hyperrealistic and highly immersive horror game with escape room mechanics and gameplay not based on a story, but on the intensity of the experience itself. Whether this title will have a narrative thread or not is for now just another one of its own mysteries, although believe me, that will not be the reason you will want to play it.

As we said, the genre of this new project deviates quite a lot from almost everything previously published by the studio, which from 2015 onward, besides Hard West, has released turn based strategy games, resource management of ancient civilizations, and simulators of various professions and businesses from different eras. The exceptions to this are perhaps two titles that hit the market this very February, DeathOmen and Night at Grandma’s, horror games yes, but none with the level of immersion that Behind the Doors promises. A Different and Terrifying Escape Room Experience

Behind the Doors will transport us to a terrifying, infinite and hyperrealistic labyrinth, in which each door could take us to a different room, or to another space that could very well be inside the same building you are in, or simply in another reality. We already know how this works, so we will not take long to look for clues and try to solve the mystery that finally leads us to the next room, but that will not be our biggest concern. We will be trapped in a place that should not exist, and as if that were not enough, we will soon discover that we will not be alone.

CreativeForge has clearly stated that they created Behind the Doors with one single word in mind, immersion. This will not be a jump scare simulator, but a calculated psychological nightmare. We are talking about a complex procedurally generated labyrinth system that promises to dismantle the original concept of Doors and rebuild it from scratch with impressive photorealism and physics based interactions. Obviously, memorizing the map will not be an option, since every run will be different and we will never find two identical layouts, every door we open may lead us to a narrow closet, an extensive library, a flooded basement, a terrifying cavern or simply a dead end.

And as we mentioned before, we will not be alone. Perhaps one of the strongest points of the gameplay, besides the immersion promised by its physics, its graphic detail and its unique spatial sound, will be the fact that we will constantly be stalked by grotesque entities, very different from each other, each one a unique predator of its kind, with its own senses, behaviors and weaknesses. While some will be attracted to light, others will hunt by sound, and others will only want to watch us. In every case, combat will not be an option, we will only be able to run, hide and listen…
