An idea carried out from the very beginning with a good dose of humor: Section 13, the latest from Ocean Drive Studio Inc. and Kakao Games, offers us an exciting sci-fi mystery in the form of a roguelite shooter designed to make the most of twin-stick controls. An adventure where, after selecting our team, we’ll be able to accumulate both temporary and permanent upgrades as we dive into the depths of an underground base, either solo or in cooperative groups of up to 3 players.
Section 13 will be officially released on July 19th, 2025, and will be available on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam, but it will also be entering early access soon, probably on the 26th of this very month, judging by its promotional videos, to be more exact. Roguelite Action, Humor, and a Captivating Mystery
Section 13 is a roguelite shooter primarily designed for twin-stick controls, playable both solo and in co-op for up to 3 players, and although it’ll be available on PS5, Xbox, and PC, the developers have made it clear from the start that it won’t support crossplay. In this story, we take on the role of an agent from the S2P Corporation, and we must investigate a crisis in the most secretive facility of a company dedicated exclusively to keeping secrets.
At first, we can choose from four agents: Red, Boy Scout, Beaker, and Scalpel, who fight to make their way through and uncover the buried secrets of the Section that gives the game its name, while also dealing with some personal issues, which adds a layer of depth to the plot. On many occasions, we come across information related to paranormal entities that seem to be linked to our agents in one way or another.
The alarms go off, chaos suddenly breaks loose, and an Omega-level containment breach locks down the entire clandestine detention center of this mysterious company, so solving the mystery hidden within is the only possible way to make it out of the facility alive. Unlike other roguelites, here the story carries significant weight, often giving more importance to exploration and discovery than to pure frantic combat. Either way, its matches are highly customizable in terms of difficulty, friendly fire, etc., so everyone can enjoy it on their own terms.
Section 13 is a Level 1 containment facility, which means it’s full of unique dangers whose existence is literally unknown to the world. In this place, it’s not enough to be the fastest on the trigger, you also need to plan ahead and apply some tactics to combat. And as we mentioned at the beginning, humor is always present, which definitely helps ease the tension caused by the high-octane action. If you’ve seen the video we left above, you definitely have an idea of what we mean when we talk about “humor,” right?
