We all know that Electronic Arts confirmed BioWare was working on the next ME, which would finally be Mass Effect 4, but we also know that it’s been a while since that announcement. The thing is, during that same time, the studio has had another supposedly “major” release: Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and we all also know that it has been extremely controversial since its launch in October of last year, as its sales, being extremely low, would have internally impacted the studio.

Recently, a leak published on a well-known news portal has revealed that there would currently be fewer than 100 employees at BioWare, indicating that new layoffs may have taken place within the company. If you want to find out more, just keep reading.

According to the leaked information, it seems that a new mass layoff would have taken place at BioWare, coinciding with the resignations of many developers who left the studio of their own will as soon as they saw what was coming with Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Of course, it’s understandable that any developer would feel love for their work, but mere experience in this industry should be more than enough to take precautions in advance, seeing the iceberg on the horizon and remembering that there aren’t that many lifeboats… What would you have done?

The aforementioned news portal, which we choose not to name in this case, has stated that “BioWare’s workforce has gone from 200 people in 2023 to approximately 100 active employees today.” And, of course, if you have even a slight idea of who the creators of your favorite games are, you’ll understand that the big question is inevitable: How does this affect Mass Effect 4? Well, hope is the last thing to be lost, and according to information from an insider, there is currently a small team already working on the game. There is also an uncertain possibility within the company of expanding the staff in the coming months to get the project into full production as soon as possible.

Regardless of whether this information is true, simply taking a look at some of the controversial numbers from Dragon Age: The Veilguard is enough to realize that the release of Mass Effect 4 could still be far off on the calendar.
