Another hidden gem we bring to you, and this time, completely free! On December 6th, 2024, the game Scauage launched on Steam. According to its developers, “Scauage is a short horror experience where you play as a scavenger looting an abandoned house, uncovering its dark secrets and collecting hidden treasures while facing what lurks within.”
As the debut title developed and published by KREIDPIX, the game’s Steam page asks us, as players, to leave reviews about it, and here at MLG, we encourage you to do so. As described, Scauage is indeed a short adventure, so playing it fully and sharing your opinion won’t take long and could be a big help to the studio. If our words aren’t convincing enough, take a look at the reviews already on Steam. There are 244 as of writing this article, most of them “very positive.”
What Is Scauage About?
As in our previous post, we will once again appeal to the game’s official Steam description, which you can read below:
“The town of Prefield was once a bustling hub, built to support the nearby mines and the promise of rich mineral resources. Over time, though, the mines ran dry, and the town began to fade. Families left in search of better opportunities, leading to a slow socioeconomic decline.
What was once a lively community turned into a ghost town, notorious for marauders and scavengers who now roamed the area in search of a fortune. Prefield became a place where few dared to stay, except for those who had nowhere else to go. Squatters and the homeless found shelter in the abandoned houses.
You take on the role of a scavenger, looking for valuable items hidden away in the remnants of Prefield. One building stands out to you: an old two-story country house that seems to hold something worthwhile. You decide to explore and see whether there is anything of value that you can take for yourself”.
In addition to this description, the developers add the following warning. “Throughout the game, players encounter scenes involving blood, corpses, occult themes, violence, and references to suicide,” so you know, discretion is advised.
Key Features
Among the features highlighted on the game’s Steam page, KREIDPIX mentions the following:
- A unique short horror journey driven by an unnerving sense of paranoia and claustrophobia.
- Multiple endings based on the decisions made throughout the game.
- Realistic movement and flashlight mechanics that offer complete immersion.
- Unconventional puzzles that require thinking outside the box.
- Atmospheric 3D sounds, enhancing the experience and instilling dread.
- PS1 and PSX retro-era pixelated aesthetics, supporting the feeling of 1960s America.
Personally, after experiencing it firsthand, we can say the atmosphere is incredibly well-crafted, with that pixelated retro look that many of us, including myself, particularly enjoy. The whole idea of exploring a mysterious abandoned house in an environment where the tension rises with every breath is simply magical. There’s no room for boredom in this release. As we already mentioned, it’s short, and the combination of exploration with puzzles, plus the multiple endings that greatly enhance replayability, results in a unique package you shouldn’t overlook.
Scauage is available right now and completely free on Steam, although according to some users on the platform, considering what it offers, it probably shouldn’t be free XD. Anyway, beyond everything we can say, how long could it take you to claim it and add it to your library right now? And of course, once you try it, it would be amazing if you could leave your review on the game’s page. Even better if you could come back here and share your impressions of the game with us! Then we can talk about the best scares we managed to get while playing. Go ahead, we’re waiting for you. You know, gamer, we’ll be reading you! 😉
