The new Ukrainian studio VG Entertainment has recently announced its first game: Forest Reigns, a curious and striking FPS with RPG and survival elements. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic city of Paris, which has become a mutant forest full of dangers. Undoubtedly, the concept is intriguing and interesting from the very beginning, even more so if you take a look at the gameplay trailer accompanying this article, which you can find a bit further down. VG Entertainment is a new studio formed by former developers of STALKER and Survarium.
Currently, Forest Reigns is confirmed only for PC, though it’s possible that the game might reach other platforms in the near future. As you can see below, we already have a first gameplay trailer, showcasing its cartoon aesthetic and its curious setting in a post-apocalyptic Paris dominated by a mutant forest. I must say, as a personal observation, that the mere idea of players facing the forces of nature itself in a post-apocalyptic environment seems incredibly appealing and, to a large extent, innovative.
A Survival FPS/RPG In a Post-Apocalyptic Paris? I Have to See This!
Forest Reigns, as presented, is a survival FPS that takes players to a completely transformed post-apocalyptic Paris, dominated by a mutant forest teeming with deadly creatures. The city, now engulfed by a wild and sentient nature, becomes the setting for a constant struggle for survival. In my view, while it doesn’t appear to be an open world, it reminds me a lot of levels from some installments of the Crysis series, but with its own distinctive touch that reminds us exactly where we are and who or what our main enemy is.
This forest isn’t just part of the environment; it’s a living entity with its own intentions. Players can interact with it in many instances to slowly uncover its secrets and mysteries. It’s possible to use its power against enemies, or you might have to face its wrath if your actions go against its purposes or provoke it in some way. The story will not be linear, inviting players to immerse themselves in a plot full of mystery, with dozens of missions offering multiple paths and endings, allowing you to ally with or compete against unique factions. Every step you take in this environment will directly influence the story’s outcome.
Forest Reigns will offer realistic and intense combat, featuring a wide range of customizable weapons that let you adapt your playstyle to the needs of each situation. Every shootout will require precision and strategy, and you can constantly upgrade your arsenal. Of course, as we’ve said from the start, survival will be another key pillar. Resources will be limited, and danger will be constant, making it essential to search for materials, craft tools, and plan every move to overcome the challenges you face. Exploring this post-apocalyptic environment, which remains respectful of contemporary Parisian architecture, will undoubtedly be one of the game’s most captivating features, with iconic locations and monuments now shaped by the fury of nature.
Although Forest Reigns doesn’t yet have a scheduled release date, its developers have already shared the minimum requirements, which may suit a high-end range of computers: a Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600, 16 GB of RAM, a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600XT, and 100 GB of free disk space. I’m already reserving space on my drive. 😉
