Atomfall is an action, adventure, and survival game that will launch at the end of March for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It is being developed and will be published by Rebellion Developments, who just a few hours ago amazed the gaming community with an extensive gameplay video lasting over 7 minutes, which also includes descriptive narration of the gameās various aspects.
In this video, we get a preview of the dangers and mysteries that await in this devastated land. Letās remember that its setting is based on a real event, the Windscale nuclear disaster of 1957. However, we will immerse ourselves in the story through the eyes of a protagonist suffering from partial amnesia, meaning he doesnāt exactly remember who he is or what heās doing there. He wakes up in the quarantine zone in northern England, five years after the Windscale incident, so his primary mission, in addition to uncovering his past and identity, will be to discover the secrets and mysteries surrounding this area, perfectly recreated as the English countryside of the 1960s.
Rebellion takes us on an extensive journey through different moments, where we see various characters and strange isolated organizations within the quarantine zone. We must remember that the protagonistās interactions will matter for the development of the story, though he is clearly warned: āNot all citizens are friendly.ā The developers remind us, āYouāll need to scavenge for supplies, craft weapons and items, and fight to survive,ā making it clear from the start that the task ahead will be neither easy nor normal. Rebellion encapsulates the concept in one premise: āExplore, scavenge, survive.ā
We will have to explore military camps, enter abandoned underground bunkers, and take enormous risks in ancient ruins to uncover the truth about Windscale. Besides our ingenuity and a few weapons, we will always have at hand our super-useful and invaluable metal detector, which will help us uncover many things buried beneath the surface, and yes, you can read that with a double meaning š
As we mentioned in our previous article about Atomfall, its developer Rebellion Developments is known for titles like the Sniper Elite series, which already paves the way for an action-oriented experience. To this, they add an immersive narrative to portray a storyline and level of action inspired by greats of the genre such as Fallout: New Vegas and BioShock. And besides the inspirations they themselves mention, personally, I can see a bit of Metro in the gameplay, and perhaps another title that doesnāt come to mind right now.
Atomfall presents itself as a very complete game, capable of captivating fans of action, post-apocalyptic sci-fi, and even the vintage style of the 1960s English countryside. But it also seems entirely capable of capturing the interest of survival game lovers, stealth game enthusiasts, and even those who, regardless of a gameās genre, simply know how to appreciate a well-told story. Atomfall seems to have it all, and in fact, we are very close to trying it out: in less than three months, it will hit the market!
Take a close look at the gameplay video accompanying this article, and tell us, are you ready for Atomfall? This gem will be brought to us by Rebellion Developments on March 27th of this year. So, while we wait, why not check out the comments and share your opinion about this impressive gameplay? You know, gamer, weāll be reading you! š
